  2. I like this board: MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR 400MHz FSB nVidia nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Dual Channel DDR400 Socket A/462 Motherboard with SATA RAID, AGP 8X, LAN, 6 Channel Audio, USB2.0, Firewire: MS-6570-030

how much are you willing to spend?

That Asus A7N8X Deluxe that rallynavvie posted is very popular also, and everyone recommends it.

  3. I have an A7N8X Deluxe in one machine and in my personal one I have an A7N8X-E Deluxe. Both outstanding motherboards.

I have always used Asus boards and I have yet to have a problem with any of them.

  5. I hear that Gigabyte motherboards are also good. This particular one is £24 cheaper than an A7N8X-E Deluxe (the Asus flagship model), being £50 as opposed to £74. However, to say that is it is better is not strictly true in the features/specifcations context. The Asus has dual LAN, one 100Mbps and one gigabit port. It supports dual channel memory, which the Gigabyte does not. It has a plug in £10 card giving it wi-fi networking and access right away. Finally, it has an nForce2 Ultra chipset, which is currently accepted as the 32-bit market leader in perfomance and stability.

In favour of the Gigabyte, however, is price (always an important factor) and the fact that it has dual BIOS. Although this is pretty defunct today since EZFlash and Q-Flash make BIOS flashing very safe, it's still reassuring to know that if one BIOS chip gets corrupt, you still have a fallback.

The Gigabyte looks like a competant little board, but it isn't quite as advanced as the Asus. Ultimately, you may just have to let your wallet choose!

  7. So does the Asus. RAID 0,1 and two SATA ports.

Print the specs off, and look at them side-to-side (rearrange them in Word for easy reading) and you'll see it all much more clearly.
