Just looking for a few opinions, and the reasons behind em.
I'm upgrading a few things on my computer, and I haven't used XP yet. Wonder if I should even try?

Windows XP is very, very stable using it as I do for capturing vis an ATI AIW card.
It compares very well with Windows 2000 and with Windows XP , I have an added benefit of a better set of tools to use with other programs. The price of success is NON Negotiable -
I can only offer my experiences on Win2K since both capping machines at home use it, for various reasons. My PC at work is XP SP1 and it is very stable, but I don't cap video at work either (I'd like to be doing that all day
).
Win2K is rock-solid for me. It never BSOD's me or freezes up, ala 98SE. -
Many of us believe that XP SP1 is very stable, so if you accept that it is worthwhile to go for XP. Since After 5 years MS stops supporting the OSes. So THEORHETICALLY MS will stop supporting W2K some time 2005 or so. XP will be supported till 2007 or 2008.
If you change machines often it isn't a big issue, but if you plan on having that machine in some way into 2006, it makes a difference.Cendyne/Pioneer 105 & 104 with a Dazzle* Hollywood DV-Bridge. -

I prefer 2K for its networking ability over XP but aside from that either will suite you just fine.
If you are short on cash and already have 2K stick with it for a while longer. But upgrade in the future is definately in order when M$ stops support for 2K as mentioned earlier (and most definately will). -
I jumped form 98SE to XP I'm not much help with 2000....but I'd buy another XP system in a heartbeat. I crashed it once....IT didn't crash....I aborted a Windows upgrade once and I crashed it.
Obviously I got it up and running again fairly easily since I am here typing this. And I am a computer idiot...at least on THIS machine. I'm on a German version of XP and I haven't learned much German yet.. -
W2k. XP is basically W2000 with additional bells and whistles, taking more of your systems resources. Equally very stable tho - possibly with a slight 2000 advantage. (I use w2k at work, XP Pro at home(when not on Linux)).

Yes, XP!
It is very stable, but ... it is NOT secure! I recommend XP (Home or Pro) but it IS NECESSARY to make all windows critical updates from MSN site.
Don't forget to get some antivirus protection.
