If it's the hypertext (http://www.xanadu.net/) Xanadu you mean, then it's a classic. If you mean the movie, then it's a limp, emasculating attempt at a remake of a Rita Hayworth movie from the '40s. Most definitely a chick-flick and because of that, not on my list of movies to see :P

a Stinker Classic

TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took my friend to the cinema once to see "Xanadu" and Olivia Newton John was my favorite singer and star at the time.
I enjoyed it even though a terrible film as my friend was bored and telling me what a shocking film to watch.
It is only rated as 1½ stars in my movies database.
My friend prefers science fiction, western and 007 movies than this trash.
I never watched that film again and Olivia as so much better on "Grease".I am a computer and movie addict -
My wife loved it. It sucked. Of course, she liked "The Pirate Movie", too. The only thing worthwhile is ignoring the dialogue and watching Olivia, but don't tell the wife or GF what's really going on in your mind...

Xanadu sucked but it wasn't the worst chick-flick I've ever seen. That one would probably be a tie between Beaches and Fried Green Tomatoes. Those two made my genitalia retract like a startled turtle and inspired an immediate need to "get in touch with my feelings"
Others labeled as a chick-flick were actually quite good, like Anna And The King, Delores Claiborne and Sleeping With The Enemy. -
Never seen it.
I was surprised by "good" chick flicks such as The Sweetest Thing, it reminded me of The Naked Gun.
"Bad" chick flicks are nothing but crying and hugging........until the Zombies kill them and eat their flesh.....or at least I add the zombies in my mind to keep me awake. -
I wouldn't call Xanadu a "chick flick" - not really sure it appeals to women all that much.
It's a musical fanasty...and was attempting to bridge the generation gap and modernize '40s/'50s musicals to appeal to the forthcoming MTV generation (being that it was made prior to MTV).
Those two eras just don't mix - there was very little they had in common.
And though I don't like to use the term myself, it came off as being very "GAY"(no offense to anyone...I happen to have friends who are and they say that a lot too).
The movie is so out of touch that it couldn't really appeal to anyone...it's a mess.
It's like Singing In The Rain meets Roller Boogie (and roller disco never really caught on, so that in itself was a big mistake).
Tap dancing and roller disco....what a concept
Hollywood was tripping on some major LSD or somethin'...and trust me, you couldn't even enjoy that movie if you were stonded out of your mind.
Nothing could save that from being the disaster it is.
It doesn't even appeal to young girls - I saw it in the theater with my younger female cousin, and she spent most of the time hangin' out in the lobby with my younger brothers and using the restroom.
Don't expect anything like Grease...at least that movie had a plot
Xanadu isn't about anything.
I went in thinking what the hell could this possibly be about and left thinking what the hell was that all about.
The music wasn't that bad - but it doesn't go with anything in the movie.
It's supposed to be a love story between a human guy and an immortal woman...the kind of thing most people would flock to the theater to see, right?
She has to get her Dad's (the great Zeus) permission to become human so she and her love interest can live happily ever after together.
With dancing and singing going on inbetween.
There's a good reason this one didn't get talked about much
Stay as far away from it as you can
