  1. I've captured about 3 and a half hours of S-VHS in 30 minute segments.
I'm doing some quick editing in Studio8, but the second segment just will not work. It appears to render to .mpg after I've done minimal editing, but there is no video apparent on playback.

The original captured .mpg's play fine in everything.

If this segment is corrupt, are there any programs I can use to check it and hopefully fix the file? Once, when trying to get Studio to work properly, I saw an error message about framerate but, knowing Studio, I figured it was just a typical glitch. I've since re-installed Studio, but no-go.

And, after I finished copying both of these old tapes, my SVHS recorder died on me. It was an old Panasonic and worked great in it's youth.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi there

first grab a copy of virtualdubmod which will open mpeg1 and 2 files. Then open up your problematical mpeg. View file/information and this will tell you what sort of an mpeg it is and highlight any obvious problems.

DVD2AVI would probably tell you the information you need too.

Then you could try mpeg2vcr to open the mpeg, copy the whole clip to the clipboard then click the record button and save to a new file name then see if that file is ok for your needs.

If that doesn't work post back the mpeg specs here. Typical information needed would be something like

    MPEG format (1 or 2 - or 4 I suppose but that's unlikely)
    AUDIO Format: PCM/AC3/MPEG
    FRAMERATE: 24/25/29.97/30FPS
    SOURCE FORMAT: PAL/NTSC

    Cheers

    Edz

  3. This is a 720x480 mpeg2, NTSC, 29.97 file. Works everywhere except in Studio8. I've moved on to try TEMPGEnc Plus trial for all these segments. I just have to chop some unwanted material from the start and finish of each, with no further editing required.
Then I'll put them in TEMPGEnc DVDAuthor and go from there.
Don't know if I can do it yet, but I'm trying to put all files on one DVD. Might be wishful thinking, but we'll see. Each 30 minute segment is taking me 2 hours to run through TEMPGEnc Plus (and I screwed it up the first time).

    Thanks for your advise.
