hi i have 2 files, both mpeg2 which i am trying to burn as svcd on two separate cdr's. both files are in the region of 770mb in size and will easily fit on one disc each. when i try to burn them using ulead moviefactory2 as svcd i make my menu and chapters then when i get to the last output page it pops up a message saying this action may take a long to to render. im like wtf? i thought if its mpeg2 then it shouldnt need to render it? so here is the stats one of the files from the avicodec prog
Quote:
File : 778 MB (0.0 B), duration: 0:00:00, type: MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 90 %
Video : 0.0 B, 5200 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 720*576 (2.21:1), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
Audio : 0.0 B, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported
am i missing some important info here? being a newb at burning svcd, i only ever burnt one before but that went with no probs in nero. this time id like a more sophisticated menu so i am trying to do it on ulead mf2. any body got any helpful suggestions about this? or know what i need to do to stop mf2 rendering the video

1. Click the second button in the lower left corner of the Ulead DVD MovieFactory interface;
2. After the PROJECT SETTINGS pop-up menu appears, check the DO NOT CONVERT COMPLIANT FILES check box IF YOUR SOURCE FILES COMPLY WITH THE SVCD SPECIFICATION (if not - leave the box un-checked).
3. Click the CHANGE MPEG SETTINGS button;
4. After the small pop-up appears, click CUSTOMIZE;
5. After the VIDEO SAVE OPTIONS pop-up appears, click the GENERAL and COMPRESSION tabs and choose project settings that precisely match the properties of your source SVCD clip.
This should activate the Smart Render technology in Ulead DVD MovieFactory and allow you to burn your file to disc without re-encoding.
Hope this helps,

it wont let me specify the video as being 5200kbps as above in the mpeg settings of mf2, it says it has to be a number between 192 and 2600. so i wont be able to get it the same as my source files which have the above specs. so does this mean that my files are dvd compliant mpeg2 and not svcd compliant mpeg2 files? only i notice also that in mf2 in the mpeg settings the general tab wont let me alter the frame size to 720*576 as per the specs above? its a little confusing. -
Yes,those files are dvd compliant(except for the audio) and not within svcd standards.What ulead is doing is rendering them into svcd compliancy.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
At the beginning of your Ulead DVD MovieFactory project, you are given the option to choose whether you wish to create a VCD, SVCD, or DVD.
If you choose SVCD, but your source material is not compliant with SVCD disc standards, then Ulead DVD MovieFactory will re-encode the source material to be compliant with SVCD standards.
If you choose DVD, and your source files comply with DVD standards, then you will be able to adjust your encode settings to match the properties of your source video.
Hope this helps,

A DVD players which plays only standard SVCDs won't be able to play the XSVCDs you created. You can re-encode your files to a SVCD standard,
say video bitrate 2520 and audio at 224 and resolution to 480x480.
But definately this would reduce the quality of your movies.
If you still want to keep the high DVD quality, try your hand at mini-DVDs.
I think probably the reason you went for creating SVCDs from these is maybe you don't have a DVD writer, even I don't. In such case mini-DVD would suit you.
A mini-DVD is a DVD on a CD. The only problem with it is that not many players support it (back to the same old problem). You can use Ulead MF2 to create mini-DVDs.
I would suggest you re-encode using TMPEGEnc if you want a standard SVCD.
