I use windows server 2000 for ftp and web serving. As for the client side, that's up to the user, but I recommend Smartftp. Free and very easy to use.

The web server hosts my dvd collection so I select something without haveing to go to the bedroom and search shelves. The ftp server is used to xfer large files to and from friends and family.

Be careful what you are sharing, you could be violating copyright law and if you advertise warez that you are sharing on this site, the mods will certainly come down on you.

You don't need broadband to set up and transfer using ftp protocol. Obviously, transfers will be quicker with broadband.

Also, are you planning on setting a ftp service up yourself?

Most of the time I use ncftp for an FTP client. proftpd is a pretty good FTP server.
