Xvid and avi to mpeg

I have problem converting what I think is Xvid file to mpeg.

I have a clip naming xvid. avi. but when I right click and check the properties, it says .avi file. So is it Xvid file? or avi? or xvid and avi together if there's such a thing.

Anyway, I put this clip in tmpgenc souce creator and also tmpgenc plus (basically the same thing) it says unsupported, so I think it is definately not avi file (because you can convert avi to mpeg using tmpgenc)

So my question is what program(s) are good for converting this xvid (I think) to mpeg?

Oh, by the way, converting avi to mpeg using tmpgenc takes quite a long time. Wondering what other programs to convert avi to mpeg with shorter time and quality is as good as the original? Freeware or shareware is good too:P
