DVD Writer Problems, Sony and TDK

I was at COMP USA today and I bought the SONY 530A and couldnt burn any DVD-R, I also updated the Firmware, I have the DVD RW DRU-500A and a 510A and they work great, I think they went cheap on the new ones, Now I took back the Sony 530 and got a TDK INDI 840G and I am having problems with this one too, Anybody have this model, when it burns, it has gaps in it, I have tired several DVD media including there own TDK that came with it, Still no luck, What New 8X DVD writer do you people reccomend, Also might want to add, I want to be able to write 3 DVD's at the same time,

Based on reviews I went with Plextor PX 708A, Did I make a good decision, Also is there a way to have it write DVD-R @ 8X?

Piece of shit.. CD recording capabilities fucked up again.. and this is my 2nd one
