I'm just wondering why this is necissary (or if it's not).... Will this increase/decrease the time it takes to "compile" the dvd?

Maybe I'm not totally understanding the authoring process?

apparently that is how they can check if the source material is "valid" or "compliant" before you go through the work of making a DVD out of it. I think you can force it to use the file without separating the audio/video, but then you risk that it may not work on the DVD.

  3. It doesn't, but you take a big risk with compliancy checking if you do not.

Frugalbrutas is right, you have the option of demuxing in DVD Lab.
I would suggest that you demux it for compatability reasons, as he said.
