  1. Greetings Group

I'm trying to play a file in the Windows Media Player 9, I get video but no sound.

It stated in the readme file that came with the video that if I don't get any sound then I probably require an AC3 Decoder. I downloaded AC3 Filter from http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/ and installed it but still no sound.

What am I doing wrong Can you help

    Thank you

  2. I had this problem, and it had a very simple solution.

Turn your speakers right up. Can you hear anything? My AVI had a very quiet soundtrack.

If this is the case, you'll find a master gain control in AC3 Filter, under the "Main" tab. Bump that up so you don't need to have your speakers humming away.

If this isn't right, try GSpot to find out exactly what audio you are dealing with.

    Hope this helps,

    Cobra

  3. I'm having this same problem too but I have a different set of circumstances... With my speakers at a good level, when I play the file during explosions, the speakers crackle, other than that, silence.

To follow your advice, I got GSpot and it says the audio codec is "ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, I" bitrate is "384 kb/s (5 ch) CBR)", Fs is "48000 Hz". I click on the stat file, it says it's all good. When I click Render in the DirectShow Render frame, it says the Video Path is "(S) --> AVI Splitter --> ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder --> (R)" and nothing for Audio Path. I click on the button for failure and it says:
"DirectShow partially succeeded to play the file. The actual text of the error or warning is:

0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format.

The following combination of filters were used:

    <the file> (Video Source)
    AVI Splitter (Video Splitter)
ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder (Video Decoder)
    Video Renderer (Video Renderer)
I used to be able to fiddle with video but trying to play this isn't turning out to be easy. Can anyone help me out, I'd be very grateful.

  4. You all get video but no sound

Get the NIMO codec and do the custom installation. In the sound submenu I think is the AC3 codec. It might not be in the that specific submenu but it is definitely in the NIMO package

  5. I got the file called Nimo50Build9Beta1.exe and ran it and unchecked everything except the items under the group called "DirectShow Filters" called "AC3 Audio Decoder" and "AC3 decoder filter" and installed those two. I restarted and now no sound comes out, not even the crackle like before.

  6. Somehow I got it to work... I think I uninstalled anything with AC3 and only installed AC3Filter 0.70b. I think I went crazy with settings and set the output audio renderer as waveOut and was crashing any players opening the file. I changed it back to Direct Sound. I opened the file in GSpot and when I render the file, the audio path becomes "(S) --> AVI Splitter --> AC3Filter --> DC-DSP Filter (autoloading) --> (R)" and it plays. So, it's all good I guess...

  7. Now BSPlayer or other players play the file, but crashes sometimes and when I try and begin playing again it crashes even before I play the file. It always crashes with xvid.dll but I'm sure the version of the codec is correct. It's such a hassle. Plus, it was crashing every time when I opened the file when I had VobSub installed.
