When making my source for DVDAuthor do I have to make it a certain size to accomodate any menus i may create.ie if the film I want to back up is 7GB should I shrink it to say 4.5GB leaving 200MB for the menu I add or does it sort this for you

You must leave some space for the menus. If you only have some images it wont that take that much space though.

Why not just author in DVD Author and then use DVDShrink to fit to DVD.
