That's a pretty general way of defining your problems. If you could give the specifics of some of the movies that wont play (mpg/avi/codecs & cetera) someone might be able to help you...

    The automated NOOB response:
We are not a helpdesk. Attempt to help yourself first and we can offer alternatives.

To be constructive, It seems strange that not 1 file will play in WMP. That sounds to me like codecs could be a problem. Try reinstalling them first. The fact that you can't go back to a system restore indicates that there might be something wrong with Windows itself. AS a last resort, reinstall windows, and I mean the long way. Reformat first and reinstall from scratch. If this is not an option, drop your box into you local computer store.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Try an audio file

    pick one try all
    1. wav
    2. mp3
    3 midi

    and tell us what happens..
Alternately download a version of VLC from Videolan.org that doesn't install and try to play a clip by dragging it to vlc 6.0 or less

Installed any cool codec pack lately? Then I suggest you follow jimmalenkos advice, and go for a full reinstall.
