Emprex 8X BIG PROMLEM - PLZ HELP

Hey guys. I'm new to this forum, and one of the reasons i joined is because i got myself a DVD Writer (Emprex Dual 8X for $80 @ Fry's ). Anyways, here's my problem.

I got DVD burner and installed it, turned on computer and it worked. Popped in a DVD to check how it works. It could read it, so I was happy and all. Then i read on google groups that I should update my firmware for the DVD burner, otherwise it'll mess up my dvds. So there i was, downloading the new firmware from manufactures website, and started installing it. When it got to half way install, computer just froze, so i decided to restart it. And when I tried to power it on again, when it gets to white screen w/WINDOWS 2000 LOADING part, it just freezes. So i tried to disconnect the DVD writer and just leaving my CD writer in, and it loads Windows no problems. But when I connect the DVD Writer, computer (windows on start up) freezes. I tried to do Find new Hardware but nothing helped. Also, when i have my DVD connected, and try to open it (still have my DVD in there) it doesnt open, nor is there any light blinking on the outside Pleaase help me, thank you.

Bad luck!!!

Try if you can flash the firmware under DOS, or try to start windows in safe mode (I think it's F8 at startup)

tried the safe mode as well, and windows still freezes. I just dont get why it does that? What does connecting DVD writer to computer has to do with windows starting? And why it cant open at all, even when it has power and should just be able to...maybe i burned my dvd burner
