Hi
if i want to encode xvid or divx movie to mpeg-2 so then i can burn it on DVD-R , will the quality be same ? ( im using TMPGEnc )

It shouldn't be far off if you do it right.
If you want to do a test before you encode a complete movie you can and have a look at the quality and see for yourself.
At the source range you can set the start and end points for say a 5 minute clip which depending on your PC specs would only take 5-10 mins to encode , then you can have a look at the results , if you are happy then go ahead and encode the full AVI.
If you are going to use TMPGenc it will create two seperate files an m2v video file and a wav audio file so if you play the m2v file you will get no audio as it is a seperate file. -
TMPGenc Plus is the only encoder I have used and I have been very happy with it.
Don't forget that once you have encoded your file you need to Author it before you can burn to a DVD-R. I use TMPGenc DVD Author and find it very good and easy to use.
