I have about 20 home DVD's that I want to copy to inkjet printable DVD-R's So I can label them nicely with my new Epson R200. Problem is that my A04 only reads DVD-R's at 2x speed so it takes around half an hour to copy the VIDEO_TS folder to my hard drive.
I also have some which are recorded on crappy Zero Defex media, which the A04 will not even read, although it burnt them. They still play in my DVD player though.
I have ordered an A07 which I believe will read DVD-R at 8x speed which will obviously speed up the process considerably, but I was considering buying a DVD-ROM if I can get one that will read even faster (16x ?), plus I would prefer to use the A07 just for burning.
As I am not ripping, just copying, so the fact that the ripping speed may be locked is not vital, but it would be nice to have one where the ripping speed was not locked. I am also hoping that the DVD-ROM I purchase will be able to read these Zero Defex discs (ironic name eh)
Any sugestions.

I get 10-12x read rates from DVD-R in the LiteOn DVD-ROM I got for $35. Rather than have tons of DVD burners in my computer I opted to also put a ROM in for ripping. I've actually had to copy training videos for customers as well as some people come back and want more discs of stuff that I've done for them before but after a month the images get deleted so I have to have them bring in their original and make a copy from that. The ROM was a good investment. Besides, I just don't like using my burners for everyday use like watching DVDs on my computer or installing software.

Same here, 35 USD for the ROM, versus 100 + for a burner, no contest, buy a ROM drive.

I've got a LiteOn 166 and yeah, it gets 10-12x on most rips and copies. Dual-layer discs are a bit slower on it though. I've noticed it also makes a difference which ASPI you're using.
Dunno if it matters or not but the LiteOn ROMs are kinda loud. -

Hope that helps a little.
What can you do with the E200, can you make labels with pictures of content etc. or is it just text?

With the R200, you can print any graphic image or text directly to a printable disc, just as you would print to paper. It uses a special caddy which you inset your disc into. Check the media forum Will there is a fairly lengthy thread there about the R200.

No problem.
Will, if its taking 12 minutes for you to transfer from your lite-on, then thats a read speed of only around 4 times is'nt it. Seems rather slow. Your A07 should be able to do it at 8 times.
