    Hi all!

I have a TDK 440N burner and it stopped burning DVDs all of a sudden.
However, it burns CDs. Does the drive use the same laser to burn DVDs and CDs or is my drive shot? Any ideas? Thanks!

it just hangs at 1%, then errors out
i have tried a few different burning programs and the same thing happens in all. it won't even do a simulation burn in Nero. i am using Japanese Maxell discs, so I know the media isn't the problem.

this is from the log file.
when i go to do a simulation burn in Nero, it says "Simulation not possible for this type of disc". I have tried several Maxell + and - R.

    what's the error?
in Nero, after attempting a burn it just says "Burn Failed"

  7. LOL, I know it says burn failed at x speed.

behind the dialogue box that says burn failed, does it say pma update failure?

I get pma update failure when using memorex disks. It usually errors out at the lead in at 1%.

I would think if you're burning cd's without any problems, your dvd burner should be ok.

    try another brand of media.

    No.
I tried a Memorex -R just now and the same thing.
I have a feeling my burner is shot.
My LiteOn 411S burns these discs with no problems but I don't want to use it, unless I absolutely have to.

I had this same problem with my HP. It happened after only 2 weeks of use, so it was under warranty...they simply sent me a new one. That was nearly 2 years ago and the new one (well...its not new anymore) is still purring.

Excellent idea to have a reliable drive to fall back on when the "good" drives fail.

I reccommend it for everyone. And paying less for the backup is even a plus.

    Cheers,
