  1. I have a Divx file, and I think that it's a Dvd rip. It is a 23.976 fps 200 MB 20 min 576x432 .avi. I know Dvd's are always 29.97 fps interlaced. Furthermore, if you are using NTSCFilm, you always do the encode with a 3:2 Pulldown tag to make sure it plays back at 29.97 fps on the Dvd Player. My source is anime. Anime is usually 23.976 fps non-interlaced, but since my source is a dvd rip, it is different. In its Dvd form, it was probably 29.97 fps (or 23.976 fps with 3:2 Pulldown tag) and interlaced. Now, it is 23.976 fps and I'm also guessing it was de-interlaced (because now it is non-interlace) when converted to Divx to be viewed on a computer. I am now reencoding to Dvd. Should I use a 3:2 Pulldown? What about the interlace issue? Once the interlace was removed, can it be recovered? I'm sorry, but I don't have knowledge of any of this stuff?

  3. Well, regardless, my divx file is a dvd rip, but is now 23.976 fps and non-interlaced. Should I do 3:2 Pulldown on playback encoding even though my source has been taken from 29.97 fps to 23.976 fps and de-interlaced? As for the relevance, I think this forum is meant for everything about Dvd ripping, encoding, etc. I'm pretty sure my source is a Dvd rip. What's so irrelevant about that?

Use pulldown cause it was probably film to begin with and needs it again, once de-interlaced it cant be recovered.

  5. Why? That doesn't make any sense. A 3:2 Pulldown for encode mode will give it tag to play my 23.976 fps video as a 29.97 fps INTERLACED. If the interlace cannot be recovered, then why should I use this encode mode?

Try and encode at 23.976 and author to dvd and you will find out.The info that was included in the de-interlacing cant be recovered.

  7. Oh, for compatability, ok. What I don't get is why when the Dvd was ripped the person de-interlaced and converted the framerate to 23.976 fps in the first place. Thanks for the help.

Movies or clips are de-interlaced for the computer cause watching it would look really crappy cause of the interlace effect on a progressive screen.

One of the main reasons, is that the person who created the DivX successfully removed unneeded frames, therefore allowing for better quality clips..
To learn more about this, do a search function about TELECINE, and INVERSE TELECINE. Your questions shall be answered more effectively..

    Good luck!!!

  10. If the video is 23.976 then you re-encode at the same frame rate and include the pulldown flag, it's that simple.
