I can't get the menus to work. I have backed up 3 different personal DVDs using 3 different software programs and all three have resulted in non working menus. Everything burns fine, I get the menus to come up but when I try to click on any one of the menu functions such "language set" or "scene selection" then nothing happens, it just sits there. This is happening on all three movies and all three software programs listed below so I gotta figure there is something not right with my computer. Here's the software and movie list used: My computer details are listed in my profile. I am using Power DVD as player which works fine when navigating the menu function on the original disc. I am totally stumped. Please help if you can, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

    DVDShrink - Full Disc Mode
    DVD2One - Full Disc Mode
    CloneDvd - Full Disc Mode
    Caddyshack
    Finding Nemo
    A Few Good Men

djelimon, thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned this in initial post, I haven't even burned the disc yet, I ripped to hard drive first before burning a coaster and this is where I found the non working menus, on the hard drive.

A lot of the rippers don't do working menus to give more space for the main movie so it can retain as much quality as possible.
I have seen a lot of threads in the past asking about 'working menus' perhaps a forum search for working menus is worth a try.
DVDDecrypter was not in your list . Have you ever tried that?

andyp1, thanks for the reply, yes I did try Decrypter and same thing happens thats why I think there is something wrong with my computer, a deleted window file or something that makes the menu work. I can not for the life of me figure it out.

It is not unlike software players to have trouble playing the menus or speed seeking backed up DVD files. PowerDVD especially has issues with this.

I wouldn't mind betting that it is PowerDVD giving you the issues. TRy downloading IFOEdit, Load the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and press the DVD Play button. I have found this to be a pretty reliable software DVD Player. If the menus work fine, then PowerDVD has issues.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. Don't get ticked, gotta ask: you mention that were havng the probs with the audio: you aren't cutting those portions out before burning, are you?

What I typically do with DVDshrink is to lower the resolution down on the menu portions, cut out all audio and subtitles other then main sound, and make all that extra crap into still pictures. They typically cut out those scenes for a reason, and why do we need to see all tyhe other stuff? If the resolution of the main movie is going under 90%, I will usually cut everything but. Hope that helps.

jimmalenko, thanks for the advice. I downloaded infoedit .96. I have never used this program but I can find nothing to click on to load the files into infoedit nor do I see a "play dvd" button? Help.

ncdevil, thank you for taking time to reply, no I would never get ticked at someone for trying to help me. The answer is no I did not cut anything out, I used full disk mode, no reauthoring or touching anything once the software program was opened and ready to rip. I have burned over 200 discs and this is the first time I have ever had this problem, I am totalled confused and very frustrated, not ticked though. Thank you for trying to help.
    Thank You,

In IFOEdit, Click the Open button. Navigate to where you have your DVD files on your HD, and select VIDEO_TS.IFO. Press the Open button. Now Press the DVD Play button. it is in the bottom right hand corner under the Preview button and two buttons to the left of the Quit button.
    If in doubt, Google it.

There is, Dude. You're talking about Menus. The buttons are down the bottom. Look to the bottom left.

    If in doubt, Google it.

  17. What version of PowerDVD are you using? You should be choosing "Open DVD file on hard disk drive" in Power DVD.

I'll bet everything would work fine if you burned a DVD and played it. (sorry if you allready tried this and I overlooked it in the above posts).

    @presto:

I think the problem is (golfnut has never mentioned otherwise) that golfnut wishes to play these on his computer and doesn't have a settop box. That is the impression I got anyway. Therefore it is going to be the same deal whether they are burnt to disc or read off the HD because it will still be PowerDVD playing them.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Jimmalenko, I see what you mean with the "about button" but when I hit play dvd it takes me back to the winrar screen where I unpacked infoedit, is this crazy or what? Why would it do that?

By the way my Power DVD 5.0 plays the menus fine on the original disc just not on the backup disc, so doesn't that tell me there's nothing wrong with Power dVD?

Don't run IFOEdit from within WinRAR - Save/Extract it to your computer's HD and it will work fine.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Problem solved, I just tried playing the hard drive files on WinDVD and menus work perfectly so this is a problem with POWER DVD. My sincere thanks to all those who have taken their time to try and help me with this problem, think I will go have a drink now. Everyone have a pleasant evening.
    Thank You,

As I said earlier, PowerDVD can have issues with backed up files. It is just a limitation of PowerDVD full stop.
    If in doubt, Google it.

God I hate it when I'm right. Pity its taken 80 minutes to fix something so simple. I guess it just goes to show that my signature is accurate.
    If in doubt, Google it.

You are so right, thanks a million. By the way what DVD Player software would you recommend, after this I am not too impressed with Power DVD, but whatever I use must be DTS capatable.

I'm glad you solved your problem but there is still something wrong because Power DVD has never given me any such problem and I back up with DVD shrink.

You might want to try Nero Burning Rom just for the heck of it. It now comes with a DVD player that is almost a clone of Power DVD.
