YAY I got a DVD+R burner for £15!!

Finally got a DVD+RW burner a Ricoh MP5120A for just £15 at my local PC World it was just lying there - no manual, not extras, no nothing, just a DVD+RW burner!!

And BOY was it easy to install!!

it may not be the fastest burner on the planet but it was sure as hell cheap 8) 8)

I use DVD shrink to back up dvds insted of those horrible DVD to VCD ripping tools that I used to use...

I just dont see why people rated them so badly??

because it doesnt burn DVD+R's only DVD+RW's can any one tell me if I update to the latest firmware if it will allow me to burn DVD+R's???????

iv seen some like this on ebay
they are usually customer returns as they dont do everything they are meant to
sometimes flashing the bios to the latest firmware can fix the problem
but it could break the drive completely
is the drive meant to do both +r and +rw
even if it only writes +rw and plays dvds its not bad for £15

although if your thinking about making a lot of dvds you can get
-r disks for £0.50
whereas +rw are about £2.50
(after buying a decent dual format burner like a pioneer for £70)
anything over about 35 disks starts becoming more expensive the way your doing it

even if your drive only does +rw im sure you could get £30 + for it on ebay not a bad little profit which can be put towards a pioneer

Nice one. i found 2 discarded PC's outside a firm near where i live and BOTH had dvd burners in them. Most of the insides were gone. Both NEC1300a but with no name on the front. nearly wet myself.

Great bargain, well done.
I wouldn't give two fucks it doesn't burn RW, my firs tDVD burner didn't either and I muddled through for 18 months with it.
If anyone tells you its too good to be true then they're talking bollocks, it was a great buy.
