  1. I have a problem because my old burner has been screwing up as of late and no software can recognize my other IBM burner. The only software that works with it is the software that came with it, and it can burn files as well as audio CDs.

I'm thinking maybe if I can find a program that'll create the DAT files and all the folders that are on an actual VCD, but on my hard drive, then I can take those files and burn them using IBM's software.

So my question is, are there any programs that will actually do this? Create all the files that are on a VCD but put them on my hard drive so I can burn them after?

VCDEasy can do what you want. It will create a .bin and .cue file which is a cd image. Once you get your burner working you can burn the image with Nero or the aforementioned VCDEasy. In the meantime you could even mount the image to a virtual drive and play it like you actually had the cd in a physical drive.

  3. So this .bin and .cue file... how exactly do I burn them onto the CD? Burn the actual files? Or is there another way? I'm not exactly sure what is meant by "CD image".

An image is what the name implies. It's a "mirror image" of an actual cd, only it is in the form of an actual file that sits on your hard drive. The files instruct your burning software to create a duplicate copy of a cd without actually having a physical cd to copy from. Does that make sense?

To burn a bin and cue image in Nero you would go to File>Burn Image and then select the cue file.

  5. Thanks for replying. Alright, I got that far. The program I'm using is IBM's RecordNow because no other program can recognize my IBM drive. It only looks for ISO or GI files to burn images from. How do I get these from VCDEasy?

I have no idea whether RecordNow supports bin and cue images(I've never used it) but in the event that it doesn't you might want to try VCDEasy. You would have to go into the options and select a driver though. Usually the generic mmc raw driver works fine for most drives.
