TMPGenc DVD Author is a popular Authoring software and has a 30 Day trial[/quote] -
Two exceptions to this are Pinnacle Studio 9 and Pinnacle Liquid Edition 5.5. They do not offer complex navigation, but they're really not bad at all, and actually offer advantages over the conventional method of exporting .m2v files from your NLE and subsequently importing them into a seperate DVD-authoring app. For instance, you can create video menu transitions with extreme ease, and continually modify and test your DVD project prior to encoding it to MPEG 2.
If you want to go full-on professional, then you will require more complex navigation capabilities, which you will only find in standalone DVD-authoring programs such as DVDlab, Adobe Encore, DVDMaestro, Sonic Scenarist, Apple DVD Studio Pro etc., but if you want to get started quickly and flexibly, I would recommend at least checking out what the integrated Pinnacle programs have to offer. You may find they are adequate for your needs.

Movie Factory 3 from Ulead authors and also allows joining and trimming which I guess could be called basic editing. Even NeroVision offers trimming but I wouldn't call it editing.
Most people go with two programs unless their editing needs are very basic. Mine are extremely basic and I still use two programs (Womble MPEG-VCR and MovieFactory-3).
