I heard i could do it by resize to 640x480 without losing quality but i don't know how. Can anybody help show it to me. It would be very appreciated What kinda application could resize divx and save back to divx? Thank you very much

In a word, no. It's not even possible to re-encode it to another 700mb file without losing quality. If you are still interested in attempting your proposed project you have to decide how much quality loss you are willing to tollerate. Give Dr. Divx a try. It's a decent Divx encoding program that doesn't require a great deal of encoding knowledge. All you have to do is select your source file, your desired destination file size and off you go.

    HI teegee420,

How about reducing to smaller size like 640x480?

Actually i don't really mind to lose quality but not too much quality loss, as long i could reduce it to 500mb.

I'll give Dr Divx a try. thanks you very much

You didn't specify what your avi's resolution is but resizing to a smaller resolution will help matters a bit when re-encoding. Dr. Divx will let you downsize the resolution but you will have to select "Modify Settings".

    Dude,

200MB saving ? I'd be interested to know your reasons why and what you intend to do with the finished product.

Bitrate determines the filesize, and resolution at that bitrate determines quality. Therefore, if you lower the resolution and lower the bitrate in roughly the same proportion, quality will remain the same in theory. In practice this isn't always the case because DIVX is a high compression algorithm. Your intended output really determines what options you have.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I have tv series that all together 4.5gb
and as i know we could only burn 4.37gb for 4.7GB dvd-r under iso mode.
I use nero 6 ultra FYI. Therefore, it couldn't fit to 1 dvd-r.

First, i have no idea what kinda tool that can crop divx

Second, i wonder how to minimize the TOC for dvd-r so that i could use the whole 4.7gb. (As i recall, back in the days, burning cd-r of 650mb with Easy CD Creator 4 only allow 630mb. But with NERO - it allows fully 650mb) So i wonder how to burn dvd-r 4.7gb fully.

Third, i have couple series that i wish to reduce from 500mb to 300mb

I have try Dr.DIVX to convert DIVX to dvd, and convert back to DIVX. The outcome is crap. very big pixels and sometimes is nothing but grey screen.

Anybody know how, please help. All kinds of comment would be appreciated . Thank you very much

  7. instead of reencoding the video try to reencode the sound, if you have for example 128 Kb/s try 96 or less, so your 4.5GB could easily go down to 4.38 (try it with virtual dub)
if you have tv series you could try to cut unwanted material (the songs and all crap at the beginning and at the end)

    Hi daredevil,

Could guide me the cutting the unwanted clips

As my question would be - how can i crop divx file?

I love to remove the beginning song and ending song, but what kinda tool that appropriate for editing divx file?

By editing the sound with virtual dub, could you be kind to guide me and show me how to do it. I'm kinda newbie in this field.

    Thank you very very much

It won't happen, dude. With DVD, 4.7GB means 4,700,000,000 bytes because it uses the 1 KB = 1000 bytes scale and not 1 KB = 1024 bytes scale which is used by CD-Rs.

    Therefore:

    4,700,000,000 / 1024 = 4589843.75 KB
    4589843.75 / 1024 = 4482.27 MB
    4482.27 / 1024 = 4.377 GB

Therefore the maximum possible to burn onto DVDR is 4.377 GB.

You will be able to crop the video using VirtualDub. Open your AVI, set the in and out points of the parts you want to delete, and press the Delete key. Once finished, Set audio and video to Direct stream copy and Save AVI.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hi Jimmalenko,

I would like to know couple things

I have series of movies and each series has around the same length of time. Therefore, it would have around the same size. However, 2 of 12 the series have bigger size of the size..like double size. the rest like around 170mb, but 2 of them are 250mb. all of them have same quality sound, size of video resolution, etc.

How could that happen. Thats why i would like to either reduce the size or reconvert the divx file or even crop the file.

There other question is how could we tell the different between divx and xvid. What's the different anyway? cuz some could play on certain particular software.

    Thank you very much.

I'll bet that the audio and video bitrates are different.

The difference between DivX and XVid is that XVid is DivX backwards...

They are both CODECS(COmpressor-DECompressorS) that can be applied to videos to make their size more palatable.
    If in doubt, Google it.

How could i make the audio and video bitrate the same??
Do i have to convert it to mpeg and then convert it back to divx with certain bitrate??

i know both are divx file not xvid.
but how could i tell the audio and video bitrate would be the same?

use Gspot?. i did and then what should i do?

    help

    Thank you once again

i would like to get the same size of file. instead of one of them is 250 and the rest are 170mb.

Use GSpot to examine one of the 170MB files and the 250 MB file. Compare the video bitrates, and then the audio bitrates. Are they the same ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  14. Have a look at this post <http://divxstation.com/comm/thread.asp?i=3&t=42577&r=7>. I use this combination to downsize a 250meg divx file to around 16meg so that I can play it on my PDA. The final result is pretty good. Runs smooth.
