Hello, I am sorry if this has been posted or if it is stupid. I just recently got a Pioneer 810 H DVR with Tivo. Now, the Tivo is great and all, but what I am wondering is do I have any regular DVD recording options? Can I put a DVD movie in and burn it to the HD and then put in a blank DVR and burn the movie to a DVR? If so, how do I do so? Before I got this, I thought I had read that I could burn a movie to the HD while I watch it, and then burn it afterwards? Please let me know. Thanks!

You can record from cable, antenna, composite and svideo to the hard drive and burn from the hard drive to a DVD-R/RW. It has no editor nor will it allow you to copy from the DVD drive to the hard drive. You can re-author from your computer if you want to. The selling point is Tivo and ease of use but it lags in the editing department from other offerings. I own Replay 4080, Showstopper 3000, Panasonic 60, Panasonic 80H , Sansui 4005 and Pioneer 810h recorders. However, I stll like the 810h for its Tivo integration and brainless useability.

What do you mean by re-authoring from my HD? Is there a way I can still back up some of my DVDs using this device? Thanks man.

TheRaven:
If you don't like the disk produced by the 810h, you can import it into your PC. With Ulead Moviefactory 3, TmpGenc DVD author, Ulead DVD Workshop, etc. you can import the DVD and edit out the commercials and menu to your preferences. It is extra work but it can be done. The 810h does not have an editor or the ability to copy DVD's to its built in hard drive. However, the Tivo menu is not that bad since it includes a description of what you recorded and for stuff you don't want to permanently archive you can use a RW disk. All of the DVD Standalone recorders are weak on editing and rearrangements one way or another. DVD stand alone recorders are not well suited for DVD duplication . A computer with a DVD burner and a DVD reader does a better job in that function.
