    Hi all...

Anyone know of a good way to clean the inside of a DVD writer?
Is there anything special out there that does a good job?

  3. Do a forum search - there are a load of posts regarding this.

Be very sure you need to do what you're talking about, since there are risks involved and most people never have to clean a lens in their life unless they're heavy smokers or live in a very dirty, dusty house (in which case they will probably die from silicosis or asthma before the drive does).

You can open your DVD player, vacum it if necessary and clean the laser pickup lens with a cotton swab. I used a bit of a lens cleaning fluid (optical, for coated lenses). No issues. Worked fine.
One remark, if you have any reading/writing problems I doubt if this is gonna fix it unless there was in fact a speck of dust on the lens.
