hey thanks for the reply truman. im still having the same problem though. i did what you said. goto capture-enable multisegmant captue. it will only let me put a check mark by it. it wont let me set the max to anything. nothing opens up. what exactly did you mean by filesize of each segment to max 2GB. i dont know what you mean by segments. also you said that tmpgenc wont work with 2gig files. do you mean it wont work with a file over 2 gig? if you can tell by my username, i love boxing. i am trying to put some of the fights that i have on vhs, to vcd's. so some of the files will be really big. i just started reading about this stuff a week ago so i dont to much about it yet. please explain it for a beginer. thanks for your patients. any help is greatly appreciated.

Long time ago, that I used VirtualDub to capture. Yes, just set a check mark, the default segment size is ~1,9 GB, so you don't care about that. As far as I remember, you can change the segment file size at capture> disk (or drive or something like that).
If you enable multisegment capture, the file wont be saved as one big file.avi, but as several small pieces (file00.avi, file01.avi, etc).
When you edit it later, just open the first segment in VirtualDub. It will load all segments, no matter whether you save it as a new avi or you frameserve it to a MPEG encoder. -
when i go to captue the only thing under it is disk I/O. the chunk size is preset at 512k. and chunks in buffer is set at 2, for a total buffer of 1024k. does this sound like what you are talking about. if it is what should i be setting these numbers at in order to get this big files captured. also when this error message comes up it automaticaly shuts down the capture and wont let me capture anymore. so im not sure if it is still capturing in a smaller piece. i hope i explained myself. i hope anyway.
thanks again for all your help. -
I don't have VirtualDub in front of me, I hope I can explain it correctly.
Start VirtualDub, select file> capture -> a new window pops up
Set audio> compression, video>format, video>compression, capture> preferences (drivers, framerate etc.)
Select capture> check enable multisegment capture.
Start capture video.
The file will be saved as file00.avi, file01.avi etc. automaticaly, just due to the "enable multisegment capture" check mark. If you don't check it, VirtualDub shuts down after saving 4 GB.
Hope this helps.

yes that is exactly what i did. i checked enable multisegment cature but it still shut down at 4GB. and yes it did save it as file00 but thats all there is there was no file01 or file02. it just stops capturing. i know you said you dont use virtualdub anymore, is there another program that you use that is better? just wondering.
thanks again
i tryed to open the file that i just captured in virtualdub, in TMPGEnc, and it says its cannot open or unsupported. is this because it shut off and there is not file01? i dont know just wondering.
thanks again
