  1. Ive done a lot of research and it seems that the problem is my media, however i have tried Memorex (4x), Fuji (2x, 4x), TDK (2x), and Maxell (2x, 4x) DVD-R's. I could never get +R media to burn, but i was content with my drive at least working on -R media.

    I havent used the drive in a few weeks, and i was in the middle of a box of DVD-R's... Now every time i try to burn any DVD-R's i get the Power Calibration Error. The drive recognizes the media at the rated speeds, etc., but no go.

    I've tried:
    1. Flashing to 130 firmware (optorite's website)
    2. Uninstalling Nero 6, manual regedit cleanout of Nero related material
    3. Uninstalling DVD Shrink/Decryptor
    4. Burning random data

    I have tried ALL the media (except +R's and the super cheap-o 2x 100packs) at Best Buy. I *assume* that BB would probably sell media that *works* with the drives they sell, but i could be wrong. Whats going on here? Is my drive bad or have i just bought 3 different spools of bad media? Will letting the burner sit idle for a month "screw it up?"

    Any info would be much appreciated.

    I had the same problem you're describing and ended up RMA'ing the drive back to Newegg. Since receiving the replacement and flashing the f/w to 130E, I haven't had anymore problems out of it. I don't know what exactly was the problem, but I've burned 6 DVD's using Nero Vision Express with great results.
    It was reccomended to me by Optorite that I put the drive on a dedicated power lead when installing it. Why I don't know but did it anyway.

    Before you give up on the drive, have you tried cleaning the laser lens with one of those cleaners with the little brushes on the underside? They work wonders. My drive gives the power cal error when it gets dirty.

  5. Bill_Cosby,

    All the possible fixes have been hit.

    * Clean the lens,
    * Direct power connection,
    * Firmware update.

    I'm going to recommend one more. Reflash your drive. I don't know, but I've had similar problems with a DD-0203 go away by reflashing...

  7. I was getting that error: Power calibration error, but once I cleaned the drive all was well once again.
