  1. I have been able to burn DVD-Rs ok but when I try to put 2 or files on a DVD and it won't work. Here are the details...

I have 2 MPEG movies - about 45 minutes long each. I convert them to DVD compatible Mpg-2 using tmpgenc and get the .m2v and .wav files output. I then import these 2 movies in authoring software (I have tried both Sonic and Tmpgenc Authors) and create a menu to choose which one to play, and successfully burn the DVD. The menu works and the DVD plays, but the sound gets significantly out of synch after playing into the movie a while. Does anyone know why this is and how I can prevent it? Thanks.

Have you tried playing the VOB files before you burn them to disk? Are they in sync? Probably not.

What format are your original mpegs (resolution, frame rate etc.)? Are you converting them using the same frame rate as the source?

If the source files are DVD compatible you may not need to convert at all. Test with avicodec and post the results.

  3. The original files are MPG-1 - VCD compatible. I do not see any VOB files. I import the M2V & WAV and the author software I use automatically goes right to the burning.

VCD video is DVD compatible, your best bet is not to re-encode it as that only causes quality loss. The audio needs to be resampled from 44.1 KHz to 48 KHz. TMPGEnc DVD Author will accept VCD video and it will resample the audio and author and burn it to disk. Here's a guide.
