Hi, I am new to this and would appreciate any help I can get. I've searched through the forum data base and still can't find an answer to my problem.

I've been attempting to c---- DVD's and have had limited success. Copying onto the hard drive isn't the problem, I've also managed to c--- a couple films to discs and was able to play on stand alone player. There is one paticular dvd however that copies and will play on pc but not stand alone player. I've tried various maunufaturers dvd and a couple of different stand alone dvd players, but this problem dvd still wont play. I've tried DVD decrypter, anydvd, and dvdshrink without success.

Is there other software I can try? or could I be doing something wrong? All help greatfully accepted.

I was trying Infiniti DVD+RW also unbranded so I won't add to my coaster collection. Do you think it is the DVD that is causing the problem? I've never tried Ritek, any idea where I can get some? Any other software I should try?

Sounds like a media issue to me.
It's possible that your standalone player will read dvdr's but not dvdrw's, as these are not as compatible.

Generally speaking, if your disk(s) play on your PC ok, but not on your standalone, it's down to one of two things :
    1. Media
    2. Standalone compatibilty

Ritk disks are normally compatible with a wide range of standalones and are reasonably good quality for the price, so if your standalone is capable of reading dvdr's, these should work well.

Have a look at http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/ they are a fairly good supplier .... just avoid any that are listed as "overprints"

Thanks, My stand alone was able to play a copy I made on the DVD+RW, plays just about anything except this one paticular film I'm trying to c---. Have also tried other machines but have the same problem. This makes me think that the software is to blame, but as I said I'm new to this and have alot to learn. Will have a look at that site you recommended.

    Thanks again.

  6. It's possible the problem lies elsewhere, but 95% of playback issues are due to bad media/compatibility problems.
I use all of the software that you have mentioned without problems, so IMO I doubt this is the issue.

Media is all important, when it comes to DVD backups ...... unlike CDR's the make/dyetype is critical to good results.

You didn't mention which burner or firmware you are using, but this can also influence things.

Before you dig too deep though, try a known good disk (Ritek) and see if this resolves it.

I am using LG 4040B multi recorder. I was looking at the site and it mentions about the discs about the dye used, and I found the one that is compatible with my burner, the purple dye one. What is the difference in the dyes? Sorry for being a pest with the questions.

  8. No probs

Ritek is the actual dye (Brandname is less important), these are a darker purple colour than say Princos and tend to give better results all round.

Ridatas, Ridisk, Datasafe, Ritek branded & Arita all have Ritek dye.

I'm not familiar with your burner, but Ritek G03's are 1-2 speed and Ritek G04's are 1-4 speed, make sure you get the correct ones .... The site I gave you lists the drives for each type.

Ok thanks again, I had a look and it says G03's, they have my burner on there. Appreciate the help.

  10. Just had a quick look at your burner specs here :

    http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/lg4040-multi/

and it seems quite capable of 4 speed burning, so you should go for the Ritek G04's.

OK thanks again, is there anything I need to do to the dvd decrypter or leave as...I am using Nero6 that came with the burner is that ok? How do I do that?

  12. If you are not already using it, get the new version of DVD Shrink (v.3.1.7). http://www.dvdshrink.org/#
This will rip the movie and compress it and if you have Nero 6 installed, it will hook-up with it to do the burning, so it's pretty much a "one click" solution no burn settings to worry about.
Just go to Edit/Preferences/File I/O in DVD Shrink and tick the box "Enable Burning with Nero"

DVD Decrypter becomes superfluous in this set up, but keep hold of it, as when you learn a bit more, you will find other uses for it

  14. It should work ok .... may speed things up a bit, although, to be honest, I haven't tried it with DVD Shrink. ...... Cant see any reason why it shouldn't work though, as I have used it with DVD2One, without problems.

Give it a try and see .... if I get time later I'll do likewise.

Hi,Can any one tell me what the PACK HEADER is and why it isn't found. I was successful with burning to DVD but when I try to play it in the stand alone player it won't load unless I manually use the enter programme on the player. All help appreciated. I new to this.
