  1. I am looking at taking an Mpeg-1 and breaking it down into the following (or close) bitrates:

    56kb, 156kb (or 128kb), 384kb, 512kb, 700kb

I have tried several programs, but without converting to Mpeg-2 or higher, I haven't found any that co-operate. I NEED to stay at Mpeg-1. Please post if you can help.

You obviously need an MPEG-1 encoder for that. One that accepts MPEG-1 as imput would be your best choice.

Mainconcept and Tmpgenc both accept MPEG-1 as input. Tmpgenc is free for MPEG-1 encoding.

    Have you tried these?
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  4. I have used Tmpeg, but that doesn't do different bitrates. I have tried a slew of programs, mainly shots in the dark....most of which are avi to mpeg converters. I am looking for a program to simply take an mpeg-1 and convert it into the listed bitrates. I'm getting kinda frustrated, but that's expected I guess. Anyhow, I'll try the Mainconcept and let you know how it goes. Thanks fer the help so far.

  5. Okay, tried Mainconcept was a no go. Thanks fer the suggestion tho. I am welcome to all suggestions and very thankful for all.

I wonder if there is a company that will do this for me for a price? lol. Prolly no such luck there either. Besides, I would like to try myself...but would be nice to have as a last resort.

Thanks again all for the help so far.

I really do believe TMPGEnc can and does adjust bitrates. Load the video, select Load-->Extra--Unlock.vcf.-->Open. Then Setting-->Video.
    Hello.

I think I see your problem. Templates are standard configurations. Since you want an MPEG-1 at unusual settings, templates are of no use to you, until you create your own and save them under names that mean the most to you. So use the paths I mentioned and set the encoder manually to encode at the rates you mentioned.
    Hello.

Okay, then I'll use Tmpeg to do it from here. Thanks fer the info guyz. I had no idea that Tmpeg would do bitrates. Thanks!

  10. I must say tho, I still wonder if there are any companies or web sites I could visit that would do this conversion for me (for a fee of course) to save me LOTS of time? Would be nice....but wouldn't know what to look fer to find them.

If time is an issue then yes, you should get someone else to do it for you. I'm sure a few people here could help you out for a fee. You will not learn anything from contracting out though.
    If in doubt, Google it.
