The only one Iknow where you can keep menus, main movie and selected extras (whilst losing some) is Pinnacle InstantCopy.

Nero Recode allows you to "disable" bits of the dvd and replace them with a picture, taking up little space. It works well (for me).

Yeah but it plays the blank picture for the same amount of time as the original, while CloneDVD disables properly.

  7. DvdReMake does a good job at getting rid of the extras, very flexible. Then use your favorite shrinker after that.

Sounds a good idea, but I find the ability to determine the quality as and when you add/remove extras to be of vital importance.
For instance, if I keep the movie and three extra's, but I know by adding a fourth the quality of everything will suffer, I don't bother.
I don't know how you would do that before 'shrinking', unless you had a calculator of some sort.
    How do you do it?

As a general rule I never keep more than 300-500mb (after compression) of extras, but only if:
    - Action/Adventure movie less than 90mins or
    - Talking heads movie less than 110mins.

So with this target in mind I launch up DVD Shrink just after ripping (before DvdReMake 'ing) and enter 're-author mode' to find out if the extras will fall into the target zone. I guess you could convert the extras you dont want into 'still pictures' within 'full-backup mode' and remove uneeded streams to get a general idea at what compression will be like.

But at this point I dont shrink of course, I just exit and launch up DvdReMake and 'hide' the items I dont want. The nice thing about DvdReMake is that if I know its pretty much improbable that I can 'get' to a certain menu I dont want, I can blank not only the extras but the menu as well. This save a few extra mb's

It may seem like an extra step, but for me I always load it up in DVD Shrink anyways just to see if its even possible to do a full-backup with uneeded streams.

Regardless if it is possible to do a full-backup I will always remove 'previews' or 'comming soons'.

  10. Heh, just read my own post. Seems a little long winded and evading the true answer.

    In short... trial by error.

You can delete the extras with Nero Recode AND not have to replace them with pictures. Simply click on the item you wish to delete, press disable, and then press the OK button on the choose picture screen WITHOUT choosing a picture. The file will be grayed out and not copied into the new folder.

  14. I rip with DVD Decrypter and then get rid of the extras with TitleSet Blanker. I then use DVDShrink if needed... all are free tools.

Pinnacle Instant Copy will keep the disk structure (menus) and allow you to keep or remove whatever you want. Then, if you click on a link to removed stuff simply nothing happens. Works great and resizes the content you kept accordingly (more you remove better the quality of the feature movie will be). This prog. is my favourite.

step 1: rip DVD to hard drive.

step 2: use menuedit (cheap and good program) to disable the buttons going to anything you want to disable.

step 3: use your favorate full backup tool, just be sure to have it compress the extras removed to still frames or down as far as they will go.

    step 4: ???

    step 5: profit!

  18. Try what I use, DVDXCopy Platinum. (you'll need a DVD bruner obviously!). It allows you complete manipulation over your master DVD disc. You can pick an choose what titlesets you want to keep, and view each section of the DVD to decided what parts you want to copy.

Word of advice though, if you copy a DVD and you want to keep all the menus & extras as well as duplicate the film, the film may freeze half way through. Leave off the extras, or some of them, and copy the film. The software allows you to either split the movie over 2 DVD's (you can keep it all then), or uses compression to squeeze it film onto 1 DVD.
Leaving the xtras off, the film should work pefectly. The software automatically copies the menus, subs and dolby 5.1 surround sound.
Its made by 321 Studios. They also make, DVDXCopy, DVDXCopy Xpress and Platinum. I have all 3 installed, but Platinum is the latest version, and works great!!! Hope this helps.

  19. DVD2one allows you remove unneeded language tracks, closed captioning, sub-titles, and extras. You can even remove the menu (why do you need it if the only option is 'Play'?). Just put the disk in and the movie starts playing.
If it works, don't fix it.

Does "hiding" actually remove those sections?
And if so, does the DVD skip those sections upon playback?
