  1. Why does it take over 24hrs to convert a DivX .avi to .mpg format using TMPGEnc? Is there any way to speed this process up?

  2. give us more information:

whats your system - how fast
what settings did you use in TMPGEnc

it can take over 24hours if you select a lot of filters or select the "best" motion search setting

  3. Ok, here are the options I have selected:

    Under Canopus DV Codec
-> Enable reading referrd format AVI thorough network

Under Panasonic and I-O DATA DV GigaAVI Codec
-> Enable reading referrd format AVI thorough network

    Under CPU Setting
    -> Enable MMX

    Under VFAPI Plug-in
    Direct Show... Priority 1
    AVI2(OpenDML)... Priority 0
    BMP/PPM... Priority 0
    Wave File Reader... Priority 0
    DVD2AVI Project... Priority 0
    TMPGEnc Project... Priority -1
    AVI VFW... Priority -2

Is there anything else you need to know?

  5. My computer is a Pentium II with 30 Gigs of Ram. I have a conversion in progress (17 hours to go and counting) but I don't see where to find the info you're looking for. I gave you all the options I had checked from the Environmental Settings area. I have the program set to "High Priority - When active" It's set to 320x240 resolution.

I'm sorry, this program is still new to me so I'm not sure where to find all the info you're looking for.

  6. I think I can safely say that 24 hours is fine - your comptuer is on the slow side and has too little RAM

sorry thats probably why it takes so long

  7. 30 Gigs too little? How much would I need to speed it up significantly?

  8. 30 gigs ? I assumed that was some sort of type-o

I dont think 30 gigs is possible - I've seen 4 gig on servers

  9. Obviously he doesnt really know what he is talkin about...I mean u ask what speed an he say pentium II....Thats great but whats the clock speed(Mhz)...The 30Gigs just go figure its the hard drive...I seen all the way to 60hrs just depends on the settings and it depends on what ur encodeing...Divx usually takes long...I have a Pentium III 800Mhz and 384MB of ram and it usally takes around 6-10hrs but seen well over 24hrs but depends on the file...l8r

  11. Sorry, I misunderstood your question, don't have to get all critical on me

128 MHz is what my computer is running at. 30 gigs was the Hard Drive size. My confusion. Thanks [Cursed] for answering my question All I wanted to know is whether such long conversion times are normal.

Sorry Stinky, you made it harder then it needed to be

    Later.

  12. OK, I doubt you have a 128Mhz cpu (not saying you don't, it's just I can't reacal anyone making a cpu at this speed). Let's just leave it at your PC is really slow, and that's why TMPGenc takes so long.

I had a K62-500 and it took me 18hrs to convert a 90min DivX file to MPEG1 (xVCD). To convert the same file on my Tbird 1.2Ghz takes ~50min.

    Search Comp PM
    128Mhz cpu - P2 NO SUCH ANIMAL !

    P2 was 233Mhz to 450 .... ish

To give you an idea of encode times .It took me 8 hours the other day to do a 98 minute movie.

    Machine is 600Mhz O/C to 903Mhz , 384Mb RAM.

    24houres is reasonable
