got an MSI 875p Neo mobo with a P4 3ghz HT and it comes with a dot chip onboard that does some crazy overclocking even though according to my testing ive pushed it to its ram limits at 3.5ghz so why when its pushed hard does it run stable @ these crazy speeds![]()

It appears that the CPU was operating so fast that it began to execute instructions before they arrived. This execution of future instructions created a small tear in space-time itself through which part of the cpu passed into a parallel universe

I wouldn't overclock a P4 unless you have a good heat sink and fan. Those things run hot as hell at there rated speeds. I think you're only over clocking th e RAM not the accual processor speed, so it stays "Stable"

I was thinking of geting the MSI 865PE Neo2.... Are you generally happy with the 875?
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space. -
On overclocking...
I've been using an overclocked 2.4GHz P4 (oc's to 3.0GHz) for just over a year now. Stock cooling and runs rock stable. I've had it running for up to 48 hours running solid MPEG compressions and never had a crash (because of the compressions - Micro$oft is another thing).
Oh, my oc'd P4 runs cooler than my stock AMD 2400+ -
Yeah the MSi Board has given me no probs at all and has been a great overclocker 100% stable @ 3.5Ghz with the 3 Ghz P4 HT. But would recomend an alternative source than the onboard audio soulution.
But the Dynamic Overclocking kinda blows ur mind when you see far out figures the highest ive seen it run @ is 9925 MhzIt appears that the CPU was operating so fast that it began to execute instructions before they arrived. The i875p chipset rules. I've been reading loads of great information on its tweakability. Personally I would feel more comfortable OCing a Pentium chip since it's less prone to catching fire than the similar AMD. The Prescott cores put out a lot of heat, but Northwood and Prestonias (newer gen P4s) are pretty good about it I've heard.
I'm waiting for the Nocona release in the next couple months. I've already decided on a new systems around those using the new Iwill DH800 motherboard with the 875 chipset and Hance Rapids SB. I've seen OCing results from the Asus PC-DL but since the Iwill is new I'll have to see just what I can do with it. I don't think I'll be overclocking the 3.2 GHz Noconas when I get them though -
