  1. I use Picview mjpeg to do my captures to .avi format and the quality is very good on my pc (no dropped frames). But, when I convert the file to mpeg2 (after I burn it to DVD and watch on my tv) I see slight jerkyness in the picture as well as an almost slow motion effect if say someone's hand moves. It's as if I see multiple hands and not a fluid motion. There isn't uch in the way of changing options in Picview mjpeg that I can change other than the quality setting (which is set to 20). Is there something in the conversion process settings that I need to change to prevent this from happening? I have tried using Vegas video which uses mainconcept mpeg2 codec as well as the stand alone version of mainconcept mepg2 software. Thanks in advance.

  2. Doesn't appear to be an Audio related question. Moving you to a more appropriate forum.

Try to change the FIELD order., I think that is the problem..

I am also using the PCVIDEO, the FIELD order depends on the the combination of codec and capturecard settings.

  4. Thanks for the info...but how do I know which field to use? I think I have it set to none at the moment. Are there any other settings I need to be aware of? Thanks.

You can only really find out which FIELD order to use by making some tests.
Just make 2 clips on DVD, each with different FIELD order and test which works well on the TV.
Remember when you change settings / codecs with your card the FIELD order can change.

  7. The_Doman, you were right...I had to change to "top field" and that resolved the jerky motion. However, I still get a slight slow motion or ghosting effect with fast moving objects. Anyway to resolve that issue?

But as of now, I am happy enough with the quality of the picture that I will start burning DVD's of my VHS tapes. Thanks again.
