Ritek has revealed its road map at CeBIT and it includes DL DVD+R, 16x DVD media as well as the Blu-ray Discs and HD DVD. According to the CEO, Gordon Yeh, Ritek is now also the first Taiwanese manufacturer to have its 4x DVD+RW media certified by Philips.

Ritek is exhibiting a variety of its new products at CeBIT, with a focus on 8.5GB single-sided double-layer DVD+R discs, 25GB single-sided and 40GB double-sided Blu-ray discs, 16x DVD+R discs and HD (high-definition) DVD discs. An HD DVD has a large storage capacity 20-100 times that of today’s mainstream optical discs, Yeh pointed out.

Ritek will start volume production of 8.5GB single-sided double-layer DVD+Rs and 12x DVD+Rs next quarter. Production of 16x DVD+Rs and HD DVDs will begin in the second half, Yeh indicated.

    mmmm...ritek goodness...

  3. I think HG-DVd is 20GB a side and blu-ray is 30Gb a side.

  4. Do you need a blu-ray burner? Or will a regular DVD burner work (I know, this has the potential to be a VERY stupid question)

The interesting thing was the comment concerning HD-DVD being able to hold 20-100 times more than current media.

    That's freakin' huge!!!!

NOT from Ritek, NOT from Verbatim, NOT from Ricoh.

    Quote from CDfreaks.com:

Although it is not said explicitly in the original article, we only deal with Plus-media. Now I'm asking myself what is happening to DVD-R. As almost no 8x media is available yet, one does not dare about thinking of dual layer or 16x media. So the DVD forum will have to hurry up if they want to stay competitive as it currently looks like plus and minus will coexist, but without further and particularly faster improvements, minus media may still fall behind.
