  1. Hi,

I am complete newbie and was wondering whether I can have a VIDEO_TS folder on a DVD from where a DVD player or drive can auto play the video and then can I also have another folder where I can have a free dvd player application which allows the user to view the dvd on a computer where he might have dvd drive but no dvd viewing software? Will he need to install such an application ?

Please help, this is very urgent and any help will be more than appreciated.

  2. Not quite sure what you are looking for here but do a google for "Movix". If memory serves it is an opensource project to develop a player that you can taylor to play what you want and it does not need to be installed.

Suntan probably has a better idea, but you could put a DVD player on a regular DVD. Settop DVD players would ignore it, but the computer owner would have to install it first. Make sure you can use a player without copyright violations, maybe a freeware player.

I don't see why not. AFAIK settop boxes check for VIDEO_TS and sometimes AUDIO_TS folders on each disc. I don't think they care about any other folders that may be on the disc. All you would need to do is (as someone else mentioned) get hold of a freeware player and place a self-extracting exe or something in the root or in a separate folder.

You could do some coding perhaps to check if the software player is already installed on the user's PC, and if so, just play the movie using it. Otherwise, launch the installation file.

There is no time for urgency here.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Thanks again.
