  1. Any ideas here would be appreciated.

Suddenly my DRU510A has started reading disks extremely slowly. They do read and generally work ok, it's just ridiculously slow. The same CD's will work on other drives with no problems. Example installing a recent game one my other drive took 45 seconds, it took 15 minutes on the DRU510

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks

  2. You may want to verify that DMA is enabled. If that fails, try reinstalling the driver. If that fails, try installing the firmware update.

  3. I have the drive with firmware version 10b. It has worked with memorex, tdk, fuji, imation and maxell dvd+r's not one coaster. I just got some ritek dvd-r 4x disks and now it fails at the lead-out point in writing. Does anyone know if the firmware updates fix this or should I burn at 2x speed.
Which firmware is best 10c, 10d, or 10f?

  4. I have the "F" firmware version and it works with the Ritek DVD-R 4x that I have (the one's with the purple surface).

My problem is not with writing it's with reading and it used to work fine.

How much do you use yours? I think mine slowed because of to much use. Though the problem with my DRU510-A is not quite the same, I do know what you mean. I never even got to try a DVD, but I made 300-400 CDs. The burning got slower & slower, takes 25 minutes to burn a 80 minute disk now. Thats around 3x speed. I thought the problem was, to much use for what it was not really made for. In other words use a CD burner for CDs not a DVD burner, espicially if you plan to use it alot.
    Thanks Mike.

  6. I use it quite a lot, perhaps 5-10 DVD's per week. I rarely use it for CD's

Well like I said, I think mine was over used. I removed it and for now installed another CD drive. Someday I hope to get back to VHS to DVD transfers. I'm watching this topic to see if I can pick up some advice too.
    Thanks Mike.
