  1. I have done some serious searching on this forum. I just want to convert an .mp4 file to a dvd! Is this quicktime stuff or something? Is this a MAC format? Is it XVID stuff? I'm totally confused. Please help.

MP4 is just mpeg-4 compressed video usually with AAC audio in a .mp4 container. Quicktime is one of the players that can handle it but not exclusively. Nero Recode 2 can rip a DVD to mp4 and Nero Showtime can play mp4 files as well. I normally play them with Zoom Player.

Anyhow, to convert to DVD you will need TMPGEnc Plus and you will have to install the TMPGEnc MOV Plugin. When you browse for your mp4 file you will need to change the "files of type" slider to "all files". Depending on the resolution of your mp4(usually in the neighborhood of 320x240), I would strongly advise against creating a DVD mpeg with 720x480 resolution. It will look better if you use 352x480. You will have to use a seperate authoring program to put the finished mpeg on DVD.

  3. Thanks, I encoded the video as an elementary stream. How should I rip the audio? Thanks.

Pretty much the same as before, only do this:

In the future you might want to select "ES (Video+Audio)" to save yourself a step. By default it will encode to mp2 but you can go in "settings" and change it to linear PCM if you prefer that for authoring purposes.

Thanks, but doesn't work. TMPGEnc isn't extracting the sound out of it correctly. I can play it in Quicktime and hear the sound, but when I run it through TMPGEnc, using either ES (Video + Audio) or System (Video + Audio), it's not pulling the sound out of it. Any ideas? I have looked all over the web and these forums for this. It's killing me! I can get some decent video but no sound! Also, when I just output the .mp4 file as an avi for a few minutes (with no compression), there is no sound upon playback of the AVI. I also tried encoding it as PCM. Same result - no sound. Thanks.

Do you have Quicktime Pro? If so you can output as avi and I'm relatively sure you will get audio in that. Another option would be to install 3ivx which is another mp4 decoder. Maybe TMPGEnc will recognize the audio once that is installed. Aside from that I'm out of ideas.
