Hi,
I've got y brand new Lite On LVW-5005, and would like to save my firmware before upgrading... as it appears there are bugs. Mostly I'm concerned about losing any macrovision or region off hacks which may be available as they were in the first release of the 5001.
Do I just burn the file to a CD R and power up with the CD in the tray to upgrade the firmware? Anything special to know, do or don't do?
Thanks

I own a LiteOn 5001 and so far did 3 firmware update without problem. Since this is not a PC device. There is no way you can download the firmware from 5005 and save it on a disc. I know you can still download earlier 5001 firmware from LiteOn web site. Sould be the same for 5005.
To upgrade just burn the firmware as a data disc. Put it in the 5005 and the machine will recognize the firmware. After you confirm your intension for firmware upgrade the machine will upgrade itself. Make sure you follow the instructions on the screen. Do not turn the power off too early.
Ther is an official LiteOn forum you can find some information:
