I heard this second hand and was wondering if its true or not,
I heard that Pioneer burners have a counter in them and when you get to 800 burns the burner stops working.
they can reset it , but if you reached 800 in a short period of time they assume your pirating DVD's and dont reset it.
I apoligize in advance if this is old news, common knowlege, proven false, hearsay, urban legend, proven hoax.....

I'd have to agree about it being an urban legend. I honestly don't think they would even care that much. Sony maybe, but not Pioneer. But who knows, maybe that's why we see so many posts about drives being unable to burn DVDs but still read / burn CDs and maybe even read DVDs. Still, I doubt it.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
ive got one that has burned over 4000+ .. others i have are between 1000 - 3000 i guess ... they are in duplicators in case you are wondering ... but standard issue 104's , 105's

Fair enough
i shouldnt eaves (sic) drop at computer stores -
Just to close this off
I shot an email to a mate who works for Pioneer and this was his reply.

didnt think theyd be allowed to do it
would have been breaking some kind of intrusion of privacy law or something -
That would b bad for business. Thousands of writers would have to be reset and the pioneer burners would no longer be seen as reliable.
As a result they wouldn't sell well anymoreGive a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks
Have you noticed that a slight tax increase costs you two hundred dollars and a substantial tax cut saves you thirty cents?
