  1. I am trying to convert an mkv file to an mpeg but when i do using firewalkers article

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/184742.php

and it turns into an mpeg the subtitles are gone. The old mkv used directvobsub but it doesnt seem to activate/work with the new mpg.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. My eventual goal is to turn the mpeg into divx.

  4. A very large avi file, that couldnt play. Then i converted that to an mpeg. But when i played the mpg it had no subtitles.

  5. does the avi come with multiple streams?
import the avi into virtualdub and click on streams | stream list
check to see if there is a subtitle stream.

  7. did you use virtualdub to check the stream list?

there has to be a subtitle stream somewhere unless the subtitles are permanent. doesn't look like the avi has permanent subs or it would have shown up when you encoded the avi to mpg.

look at all the files that were extracted and see if there's a subtitle stream or subtitle file of some sort. If you can't find one, you may be able to download one and add it to your dvd.

  8. I have a similiar problem with the difference that i cannot even open the mvk file in Virtualdub to extract the audio or subtitles whenever i try to open the file i get:

"only handle [S_TEXT/] subs for the moment"

and then the file is still unopened.

You need to use VirtualDUB MOD to rip the subtitles into a .srt file, then frameserve from VirtualDUB MOD to TMPGEnc.

My problem is that VirtualDUB MOD won't rip the audio to any usable format. I tried to save it as OGG so I could convert to WAV, but that didn't work. Tried to save directly to WAV, that didn't work.

How do you use this ridiculous format and what morons keep using it?

  10. Yo, check this post so see if you could make it through. There are 2 of them (mine is the second (NightScream) so try them out).
