  1. I am converting xvid to mpeg2 with the dvd setting in TMPGEnc, and the estimated size it calculates when your entering the bitrate is way off! It would estimate 2200mb when it actually turns out to be 1500mb. Its hard to try and convert things to a certain size to make sure I can fit them on my dvd. I'm converting 3 xivds to max res and about a 7000 bitrate to one dvd. So I need the size per ep to be about 1450 or so. It takes me several times to convert something thats within the size I need! Any way to fix this problem?

7000 bitrate? That's wrong anyway you do it. So is max resolution. There is absolutely no way to get 3 full length movie onto 1 DVD if they are full size (D1). Full D1 is good for maybe 2 hours of video, depending on the quality of the source.

The only way to exactly hit a file size is CBR(worst) or 2-pass VBR(best). CQ(almsot best) never quite hits a filesize.

Specs on the source files? Then we can point you to the right settings.

  3. they are 350mb xivd file I think around 352x620 or something, I set to 720x480, with about a 7000 bitrate also using 2pass vbr mode. It looks really good at the max res, and about a 6000-7000 bitrate, even with the higher res! I have been doing it for my other dvds, but some mpeg2 file sizes are bigger than expected after conversion. so at 720x480, audio at 224, about a 45 minute episode not movie, at 6000 gets me 1,657,245mb. I want to get them a little below 1500mb then I can put 3 of them into ulead dvd movie studio 3 and made a dvd with 3 shows on each dvd. Should I set max bitrate down from 8000? and average at about 6000?
