Can the new version (5.2 Deluxe or 5.2 Deluxe Studio) import video files & edit them? Like split & combine videos and add video/transition effects?

I know that this program is for newbies, but that is what I am. My PC came with version 4.5 & I'm thinking of upgrading to 5.2. Anybody know about 5.2? Thank You!

  2. I'm pretty sure that the new MyDVD Studio Deluxe version comes with limited editing. There are transitions and I think you could split and combine videos as well. I'm gonna have to check when I get home tonite.
I've abandoned this software for more advanced applications. I just bought Puremotion EditStudio4, MPEGXS, and DVD-Lab. You could do ALOT more with these.

If you want to buy copy of MyDVD let me know.

    Heyjjjaded,
Sonic My DVD does have built in editing to my knowledge, however in previous versions it had a really annoying habit of taking your source video and converting it to "best " quality whether you wanted it to or not,
Also the native encoder is really not that great, As the previous post noted you probably will want to get some better individual programs for each task for the best results, i am also a newbie but it hasn't taken me long to figure out that there are no "one size fits all" solutions in this hobby. The "Tools" section of this site is a treasure trove of free and/or affordable software. Good luck!

Well, I read more about Deluxe 5.2 in the tools section where significant improvements are noted. I decided to give it a try & I'm happy. Probably the best improvement is that it will now NOT re-encode video files that are already MPEG2-DVD-ready files. So, I am able to encode with TMPGEnc Plus, insert high quality video files into MyDVD Deluxe, and end up with the same high quality videos on the DVD. I'll admit that I'm still a newbie, but I'm a happy one with this program.
