  1. Hi, I have two very specific audio problems that I hope you can help me solve.

First, I have an avi file with dual channels. However, the problem lies in the playback. The two channels seemed to combine and are playing both audio through each speaker. Each channel has a different language, so it ends up mixing the two languages. Is there a way to fix this?

My next problem is one that seemed to have been asked many times on this board, but no one ever answered. Is there a way to play only one audio channel in windows media player without encoding? For instance, if I wanted to play only the right channel of an mpeg file, how would I do that? What codec is needed?

    Thanks.

It sounds like the AVI file might have been created improperly. You could try saving the WAV file with Virtual Dub and seeing exactly how it looks in GoldWave or a similar editor. If it is truly mixed, you may not be able to do anything about it.

For the MPEG in media player, most of the newer versions have a balance control. You could swing it to the channel you want to hear. I know it is a bit quick and dirty, but it certainly is easy! Alternately, you could demux the audio from the mpeg as a WAV file. Then use GoldWave to manipulate the wave file the way you want and re-mux.

  3. Well, I'm pretty sure that the avi and sound is all right. Its just that I might have accidentally uninstalled a codec, causing it to mix the channels. Because before I uninstalled some codecs a while back, it worked fine.

And I know that trick balance trick for the media player, but I dont really like to rely on that. Because I have another computer, and for some reason, it can sort out the channels and play whichever one selected. My computer used to be able to do that, but not once I unisntalled some codecs. And unfortuantely, I dont remeber what they were

Is there another way to solve my problems?
