  3. VirtualDub. I like VirtualDub MPEG2, VirtualDubMOD. Search guides by tool <- over there. You shouldn't have much difficulty, it's fairly simple if (for familiarization purposes) you use default settings for compression. Then it gets more complicated when determining for yourself how to configure the compressor, etc.

Both formats are mpeg4, if you want DivX to decode it instead of Xvid, you can change the "Four character code", using FourCCChanger, it is available in the tools section.
But why would you change it? I have not experienced any problems with the newest Xvid codec.
    Best regards.

well to be honest, im finding getting my xvids to play on my dvd player to be pretty difficult, i've tried everything, and i always seem to run into some sort of problem, or get confused what to do easily, the only thing that worked for me was using cucusofts avi - dvd convertor, i didnt want anything fancy just want my movie files onto one dvd (2 movies with menu) then watch it on my player.....the avi - dvd convertor did that perfectly......until i discovered some of my movies wasnt divx's they was xvid's ....my divx files only take about 7 hours to convert, then i put the end result in movie factory 3 and it all worked out brilliantly, but the xvids take a whopping 80 hours + to convert, thats why i want all my xvids in divx format

    Hmm.. Strange.
Do you have the latest Xvid codec installed?

Anyway, you can just make it look like a DivX file, the way i described.

Hope it solves your problem, 80+ hours is a long time
    regards

By the way, if it stills take a long time, you have to do it the way Fritzi wrote, but if it is a problem with your Xvid codec, this should also take a long time. And you will loose quality, so there is no point in doing tihis.

it could be a problem with codecs...ive got loads installed on my computer so maybe some are conflicting or something, im getting a new graphics card and hard drive next week, and will obviously installing everything from scratch, so im going to use gspot, and see what codecs i need for which movies, and only install them individually (if possible) then i'll try to convert and xvid and see if anything changes, if not, ill try the idea above (virtuadub)

since i started downloading codecs (when i got my dvd writer 2 week ago) now when i burn an audio cd with nero, it always cuts 40 seconds off the end of the first track of every cd, could this also be a codec problem?
