chaseru: You can't make selectable subtitles with virtualdub.

You can use any of these authoring tools(most have built in subtitle editors):
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=&section=&orderby=Name&convert=&dvdauthorfeat...+or+List+tools

but most are very expensive, ifoedit is free but can't do much advanced stuff. Make the subs in subtitle workshop and export to srt and use srt2sup and you can author in ifoedit.

You can also use subtitle workshop to make subs for most other authoring tools, like for Ulead DVD Workshop, DVD Maestro, Sonic Scenarist, Sonic DVD Producer.

    Hi v1p0n3,

I will soon be looking to do the same. After a bit of trawling recently (in preparation), I found these that I thought were the most promising looking:

Hope that helps. If you get to use 'em before I do, please post back with your thoughts, pitfalls, experiences etc. Ta.

To avoid some of the mistakes i have made:

In srt2sup, remember to write down the colors given, and only do the settings under "global settings" in the menus!

In ifoedit, write the colors in hex values as described in the guides, and remember to save!

These was just the things i did wrong in my first DVD´s..

  8. Hi,

A couple of bit tips from the author of Srt2Sup!

    1) Make sure you use 4 different colours for eact of the elements [text][outline][Antialias] and background, don't worry what colours you use as we will fix this in tip 2)

    2) Use my SupRemap tool to set the colours in the IFO file!

You can get the latest Srt2Sup a4.03 and SupRemap a4.04 from www.shipleys.eclipse.co.uk

    Regards
