  1. I have a family video that was taken on a JVC DV camcorder and some digital pictures that are too dark and I would like to see if I can find some software that would brighten it up. Anyone have any suggestions, I could use the help. I would prefer some freeware but if not I'll pay for it. Thanks!

If it's still DV video, Virutualdub can do what you need. For still photos, try DCE enhancer: http://www.mediachance.com/digicam/enhancer.htm. Both are free.

If you are transferring DV from a camera to a computer, Virtualdub won't work. Use WinDV or DVIO, use DV2 format. After the DV file is on your HD you can use Virtualdub with a DV codec, https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=193#comments. Then you can process DV video with Virtualdub and use it's filters to improve the contrast, etc. It will output in AVI and you can encode the result with TMPGEnc or other encoders. You can also frameserve with Virtualdub directly into TMPGEnc to eliminate the inbetween file.

  6. Could you tell how to use the filters to change the contrast on my video using virtual dub. I'm not familiar with Virtualdub and I have transfered my video to the computer and when I open up the video it comes on the monitor, but I do not know what to do after that. Thanks for all the help so far!
