  1. Hi everyone. I play in a band and we just finished editing our music video. We just shot with a camcorder, but the captures came out very nicely. Anyway, when we previewed it digitally, we ran into what I assume is the interlace issue when sample viewing it in Media Player.

When it was burned to DVD (mpeg2) and played on the Television, the lines (showing up in moving shots and bright shots mostly) were still there.

Anyone know what I should do?

We edited in Vegas 4 and I also have Tmpegenc.

I usually edit computer generated media in Vegas, so I've never seen this issue before.

    Thanks!

    Thanks again!

when you say it was shot w/a camcorder , do you mean DV ?

did you transfer the dv via firewire ?

did you remember that DV is always bottom field first when you encoded it to mpeg2?

which did you use for encoding ? tmpg or Vegas?

    what settings?

    don't de-interlace it ....

We used an old-school camcorder (Sony something-or-other). It's a newer high-quality one, but uses Hi8 tapes. Captured it onto my comp. (very sleek machine) in full mode AVI, uncompressed. Edited the AVI clips. Encoded with Vegas on the DVD NTSC setting.

  5. when do the lines show up? If you view the avi file, are they there? Post a screen shot if you can..

How did you capture it to the computer? Does the camcorder have firwire, or are you using a capture card?

I capture from my old Hi8 into my PCTV Pro. I get no lines when rording through PowerVCR, Showshifter or iuVCR.

when you view interlaced material on a pc -- you will see interlacing , but not an issue ..

default vegas NTSC DVD setting is bottom field first (as for dv) ...

also you made no mention of the hardware used in capturing ...

    do this-

    1. capture
    2. import in vegas
    2. hit alt+enter key
    3. see template ? to the far right of it you will see a folder , click that folder (tool tip will say "match properties" )
select one of your project clips and hit enter "open" button.
    4. in media pool -- right click on a track and select properties ...
note the "field order" listed ...
    5. edit your show...
    6. get ready to encode to dvd:
    A. select mpeg2 -> template dvd ntsc and hit the custom button ..
    B. under "video" tab - set field order the same as you prev. noted from above . video quality at 31 , constant bit rate at 8,000,000

    C. encode project ..

author to dvd and burn it ...

see if that is ok now ...

    problems to look for ...

if you do any resizing in your project -- set video quality to "BEST"

if on project properties your video size is 720 x 486 , crop in vegas on media first , crop 3 pixels top and bottom BEFORE encoding or editing ..

let me know if still an issue .. do not worrry about seeing lines on your pc monitor ...
