  4. Tv's don't display a whole frame at once (progressivly), they actually draw a frame as two 'fields', half the first pass, half the second pass. Thus they draw at 50 (or 60 NTSC) fields per second, or 25 (30ish for NTSC) frames per second. When you have an interlaced DVD in high motion scenes you'll get lots of horizontal lines... like a comb effect (hard to describe, but you'll know when you see it). For a more in depth discussion go to http://www.digital-digest.com and click on Nicky's guides, he has a whole article on it. If your DVD ain't interlaced, you don't need to do anything, if it is yes, use deinterlace in TMPGEnc (or in avisynth/virtualdub with a frameserver)

  5. The other question you asked was, is dvdx any godd and my answer to that is yes. Okay it may not be as hyped up as tmpeg but i think it does a damn sight better job at converting ntsc DVD's... mind ony at 23.97 frames a second though & it has no probs at pal dvd's @ 25 frames per second aswell.... dont try to do a one ate 29.97 though as it all goes out of sync, very nasty it is aswell . its quick & easy to use, remember to copy ya vobs to the drive first though as u may hammer your dvd drive 2 death by ripping from it.

    Kev!

  6. Why deinterlace ?
If U playback your interlaced video on TV , its OK . TV automaticali deinterlace it on screen .

  7. As far as I'm aware VCD (standard) doesn't support interlacing, so to make a VCD you'd have to remove it. Also if your making a divx.

  9. Standard VCD file has only one half frame, so it cannot be interlaced. However, for the people that play with non-standard VCD formats, then it can be, and you will have to check it. Deinterlaced video compresses better.
