Cheers mate, you nailed it thereIf the disc wasn't finalized after burn, try finalizing it. The one I used, I finalized it and it worked, it was a CD-RW that I first burned the TSP to, loaded it, then erased the disc, burned the FW and loaded it.I didnīt finalize the disc. It updated correctly, Iīm now trying it.
Thanks a lot![]()

Oh man, God dammit.....
Now, Iīm really puzzled. Why is it that my liteon refuses now to play a Divx 5 file?
The audio codec is AC-3 ACM Decompressor. I thought it might be that the player doesnīt play that codec, but I played another video (XVID) with AC-3 audio and it worked......
Iīll try a few experiments, but any ideas you might give me will be greately appreciated.Darling, you ruined my life

Well, I have to say it is a mistery, because I played plenty of Divx 5 trying to see which was the problem, and they all worked well. I know itīs not a problem with the audio codec. The specs of the files I try to burn are:
Vídeo : 282 Mb, 899 Kbps, 25.0 fps, resolution 512*384 (ivx.dll), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Supported
Audio : 60 Mb, 192 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 chanels, 0x2000 = AC-3 ACM Decompressor, Supported
I have not played that very same divx because I was just burning that video for the first time from my HD.
It does play XviD, all the audio codecs I have - which arenīt that many anyway- and everything seems to work great. Not these files, though, I tried to burn them again adding as well both codecs just in case.... Well, I might just reencode them to XviD and carry on.....Darling, you ruined my life

Ok.. Im new here.. sort of.. been reading posts off and on for a while.
Im having a big problem with the new update.. nothing thats been mentioned before as far as I can tell.
Heres what I did, and what happens now.
(BTW: Ive got the LVD-2002)
I downloaded the tsp file and the 0302 update. I put the tsp in, followed instructions, put update disc in... it appeared to update just fine.
I put in a divx cd, one that had serious lag issues before.. and it now runs perfectly. I turn the unit off, and go to sleep. I didnt notice though.. that the unit is still spinning. I wake up, and its STILL spinning. I try to shut it off.. dont remember what happened there.. but heres what it does now: The unit is unresponsive a lot of the time.. both to remote and unit buttons.. the unit will appear to power off when I hit power.. display panel will be off, but the stand-by light is also off, and the disc is still spinning. Sometimes it wont eject/close tray.. sometimes display comes on, sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes when trying to start a movie itll spin up, then down, then up again, and do this several times while never starting the divx... I have to keep the player unplugged. I can plug it in, turn it on... and itll say hello. It may even play a movie.. but on very rare occaision does it actually say bye and turn off when I attempt to turn it off. This has only happened after I ejected it, then pushed it in manually after it appeared to do it by itself a time or 2. Ive tried redoing the update.. but with it acting up, I dont know if I can. The tsp disc will come up as iso, but play button wouldnt work.. 'turned off' unit (no standby light, still spinning), turned it back on.. and it ejected, then went back in without me pushing play.
Grr.. Im getting tired of posting about this crap. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. If you need more info, post here. -

Supposing what went wrong won't help ... or maybe it will. The only thing I can think of, of course, involves a bad flash upgrade.
(1) It could be that the ROM is simply defective and some of the registers just aren't taking instructions as they should--in which case RMA is the only hope ... or ...
(2) ... maybe the upgrade disc you are using is corrupt.
One thing I don't particularly like about Nero is that when burning a *.nrg image file, there's no option for verification of the disc burn. When doing a data burn from a group of files, Nero lets us check the box to choose verification and then the files on CDR are compared to those on the hard drive. Burning a *.nrg with Nero doesn't offer that option to verify after the burn.
Maybe you've already tried burning another 302 upgrade disc just in case the first was corrupt?
It certainly sounds like the *.tsp file worked because you say it "upgraded fine." I don't think it would even take the upgrade unless the *.tsp file fix worked.
When the upgrade is successful, the LED display will show something like: "reading, then "erasing," then "writing." The entire process takes several minutes. This happened? These sequences of display indications occurred?
If so, I think it's possible that there are some errors on the upgrade disc or maybe even some corruption in the downloaded *.nrg.
I compare flashing the LVD-2002 ROM to flashing a computer BIOS or flashing a CD drive ROM because those are the only other experiences that I've had.
When most flash programs work on a computer, there's a checksum process involved that does some rudimentary checks for file integrity before the flash is performed.
We have no way of knowing if the LVD-2002 is that smart. In other words, once a few lines of code are checked at the start of the flash, I wonder if there is any "double-checking" of the following bits that are programmed into the ROM.
This leads me to also wonder if maybe, just maybe, there are some corrupt bits on your 302 Upgrade CD? Maybe the disc burn was exactly perfect but the download was corrupted? Maybe the download was perfect, but, the disc burn was corrupted?
Have you tried doing a fresh download of the *.nrg and then a fresh burn of that image to a CDR? (I'm pretty sure they warn against "download manager" software because a restarted download that has halted unexpectedly isn't always restarted bit for bit.)
One step further could be to use something like "ISO Buster" to extract the contents of a freshly downloaded *.nrg so that you could then burn the files to a disc and also be able to use the "verification" function of Nero.
I would use a fresh *.nrg download that had not encountered a stall or halt during the download. I would not use a download manager. I would download straight through M$ Internet Explorer.
I would burn that *.nrg using Nero to the best quality CDR blank I owned ... or ...
... I would use ISO Buster to extract all the files from that *.nrg. Then I would burn those files using:
1. Multi-Session
2. Mode 2XA
3. Track at once
4. Do Not Finalize
The LVD-2002 really seems to like discs burned using steps 1 through 4 ... at least mine does.
Mine wouldn't accept the *.tsp without burning in that manner. I also burn all of my DivX and XviD files to CDR using those settings. Using those settings seems to avoid the stalls and also seems to improve the seek capabilities within DivX and XviD files.
So, if you extract from the *.nrg, I would certainly use those settings. It seems that when the LVD-2002 is accepting firmware instructions, those settings are vital to the task (as with the *.tsp burn).
Of course, after you have made a fresh upgrade disc, sounds like you're going to have to fight the LVD-2002 in its present state to take the disc. Doesn't sound like much fun.
Hope this helps. I'm thinking that RMA is difficult to accomplish with LiteON. I know when I purchase LiteON product, I pretty much realize I'm just taking a gamble on receiving a DOA that I can't RMA.
On the other hand, it seems that lately, LiteON is proudly posting the address of their California office. In years past, it was a real struggle to find the location of any factory outpost in the U.S. Maybe RMA is easy to get nowadays?

Amen bro. Thanks for the effort in putting these instructions together. I got my lvd-2002 in the mail and flashed it immediately without a problem.
Now if I can get these freakin .sub files to playI'm getting ready to try .srt files. If anyone knows of a good .sub to .srt converter please let me know in this thread.
Aloha,
pinkpocky
P.S. - if anyone has the manual that would be nice too. mine didn't come with one. -
You can download a manual from their website:
http://www.liteonit.com/DC/english/csd.htm -
Could you please look at the link you're directing me to and/or be familiar with the model number next time?
There is no PDF for the LVD-2002 up on their site, only the 2001.
And I was successfully able to convert subtitles using SubAdjust. I found it on Overnet in about 3 minutes.

Thanks for the help VideoJockey. Its possible that it is a corrupt burn. Ive got a virus on my pc, that Ive been waiting for the weekend to remove (by formatting and reinstalling unfortunately).. though it only seems to corrupt executables... and at a slow rate. Nero was effected.. I was forced to reinstall, and it worked fine then.. or appeared to have. Ill redownload both the tsp and update and burn them here at work. Still gotta find out how Im gonna get it to accept the discs.
If this doesnt work.. then Ill attempt to rma I guess. Better to try that than to be stuck with a non-working unit.
Yes.. it went through the update process correctly, took a minute ot 2 as it should. I tried flashing again, but couldnt even get the tsp to work.. unit wouldnt cooperate.
Oh.. and If I do end up getting this to work.. I read that the liteon logo screen is a simple jpeg.. is it possible to replace this with your own, or does it run a checksum on it? -
Looks like nobody is complaining about this "phased out" product anymore, so let's get back to the main topic. The player is out for only 9 months, and they have no further plans to keep updating the firmware: Here's what Lite-on added to the firmware page:
To our best clients,
Today, we are relieved to give the birth of the 5-month breakthrough" Firmware 0302 for LVD-2002,
......blah blah blah........
And we feel more challenged to make it " the Final" for our DVD player 2002 when we gear to other product, therefore, there will be no more new firmware for 2002.
Thanks for your support and trust in LiteON in the future!
1) They only did a half-ass job supporting the OGM file, when you click on an OGM file, nothing will happen.
2) It would be nice for them to add support to other formats such as WAV/ASF/RM. If they can add OGG support, then why can't they do the same with WAV/ASF/RM? BUT NO, they decided to NOT play nice.
Not cool at all. I have lost all faith in future Lite-on products... unless they change their mind and continue adding firmwares until the product becomes obsolete.. -
Ok.. just got home from work with the discs I burned there. I got the tsp to work.. I think.. now I have update CD in.. and on the tv, its showing no files found.. on the display, its showing Update cd... its been like this for several minutes.
/me sighs. I think Ill look to other brands for my next divx player purchase. LiteOn doesnt appear to know what theyre doing... and every player seems to be different. Doesnt help that theyre trying to create updates that work on 2 different systems. Too many problems. -
Help.
My LVD2002 was working great but I decided to try to update to V0.T3.02. After inserting the disk, it started doing something as the display starting changing it's symbols. Then strange symbols appeared on the display and it powered off. No luck to power on with remote. By pulling and reinserting the plug, a "hello" appeared but no picture on TV and function buttons do not work.
From the FAQ, it says not to turn off the power during a flash. It appears that is what has happened. Any ideas on a fix?
Thanks -

Maybe that will somehow reinitialize the ROM. Did you actually use the TSP disc at all? You didn't mention it in your post. It's possible you had a corrupted file on the update disc, making the flash go badly. If you are able to try it again, reburn the disc with a fresh download of the TSP and Update. (You are aware there were two different versions of the TSP, right? I guess you probably read all this thread up to now).
Can you tell us step by step exactly what you did that led up to this misfortune? Since the player is still in warranty, I would consider sending it in for repair, they should have to fix it, because it was their lousy Firmware that caused the problem in the first place.
Sargonnas,
Any luck yet? What's happening with yours now? Still in fubar city? I really can't understand why some people got lucky and it worked right away, others were able to figure out something that would work, and some were just plain unlucky and have had nothing but a headache. This really sucks. I wish I could tell people more things to try, and we've figured out a few things, but others are more elusive. The only thing to do is keep trying. The alternative is to send it back to them and let them fix the damn thing. It's their screwup and they should take responsibility, IMO.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
What happens when you put the tsp disc in? Follow VideoJockey's instructions to the T and you should be good. I would highly recommend screwing around with the tsp disc. If you can get it to read the disc then spit it back out like it should, you might be onto something. It seems like the instructions embedded in the tsp make the player succeptible to a fresh flash.
I guess I just read discjockey's instructions several times before flashing. I know that flashing is serious business, so i pondered it for 30 minutes before doing it. I don't know that it is all luck.
Hey...on a different note, has anybody been thinking about doing their own firmware updates? I don't know much about machine level code, but I think it would be neat for this machine because of its capabilities. The kazaa lite mega codec pac contains just about every codec known to man and I think that would be great if the same capabilities could be incorporated into a hacked version of the firmware. If anyone has an interest or is familiar with this level of coding, post to this thread and maybe we can continue this project.

I love this thread...but I dont own a liteon player. However my own readings about my own player dvx6100 might shed some light.. some dvx players were sold which contained defective flash roms. this was acknowledged by yamada. Obviously people who got these players couldnt flash upgrade their systems no matter what they tried.. maybe this might be the problem for some people here.
Sidenote: I do think its unrealistic for some people to want features added that are beyond the capability of the hardware or were'nt advertised as such in the original document. eg qpel gmc ogg matroska support.Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -

No luck yet. Looks like RMA time if I can find receipt... and figure out what to do... store warranty is up.. LiteOn warranty.. for what its worth.. is the only option.

Hi all from sunny Richmond, BC
Thanks for the input . I DL the .tsp and .nrg files and tried again. Disconnecting the power cord and reinserting gets the standby light on. Pushing the power on gets a "hello". Pushing play gets an eject. I inserted the new DLs but nothing. A disc drive whir abut nothing. The French disc was the same.
I was hoping there was a "hit two keys to reboot" secret but it seems no luck.
I've emailed LiteOn and we shall see.
I've flashed countless computer bios over the years and never had a hickup. Oh well.
This is too bad because I am really enjoyong the player. The player rates a 9/10.
I'll keep the forum informed. -

V0.T3.02 is installed.
Thanks for all the help.
So what happened. As I was able to get a "hello" display on the unit I thought at least the bios is doing something. The disc ejected with an unplug/replug and play operation. So maybe it wasn't fubar. By now I had disconnected the unit from the TV as I was ready to RMA. Decided to give it one more try (well actually two). I reinserting the French version of 3.02 and nothing. Not wanting to admit defeat, unplug/replug play, reinserted French version but this time I pushed both the FF and FR keys on the unit as I was inserting the disc. The hardrive started to spin and the display seemed to go in check mode with all characters displaying. Then it went through the erasing, flashing sequence as discribed in other posts. After what seemed like an hour but was probably only 30 seconds, it said "done". I unplugged and replugged and the unit went into standby. Reconnected the unit to the TV and crossed my fingers. Voila (to thank the French Team) and I was up and running. The setup said V0.T3.02 and all my settings were the same as the previous revision. I tried a DivX and it played but didn't test any further.
I must recommend the French version as it worked for me . Lucky777 said the French .jpg only comes on during the flash. All other on screen displays are in English.
Now to get LiteOn to release the source code to groups like the French Team can have some fun and we can all enjoy.
Again, thanks to the forum for the direct and indirect assistance. -
jwbavalon,
That's great news! Glad you were able to get it going finally. I guess the French FW works pretty well, and if people aren't able to get the "official" FW to work, maybe they can try what you did. That leaves only Sargonnas with his unit not working. Since we haven't heard from him in a few days, maybe he solved the problem. If not, he should try what you did, who knows. Maybe he'll get lucky too!Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -

I am quite surprised with LiteOn not releasing the 3.02 with the correct flash.fuf settings and a week later making everyone go the crazy roundabout (no relation to you) two-CDR way. Those idiots should have been fired for not realizing that the players wouldn't be able to take VendorID=0 before releasing the FW to the public and making their company the loughing stock of the DivX fan community. -
Hi all.
To the credit of LiteOn, they did respond to my email. The following is their reply. Don't you just love gludges.:
we also release the solution of can't update LVD2002 with F/W 0302 and it was posted on our website
at
http://www.liteonit.com/DC/english/download/2002.htm
You can unplug power to unit. (Disconnect the power from drive.)
1. Press and hold the eject button
2. Plug power chord back up. (dont let go of the eject button). The drive door should open.
3. Then put in the firmware disk. Close door.
4. unplug and replug power chord. Firmware should reflash.
5. If it doesnt start loading, cut the power, make sure tray door is closed and hook power back up
Thank you for contacting Lite-On Tech Support. If you reply please include all previous emails.
Best Regards,
Estella, Lite-On (USA) Tech Support, http://www.liteonamericas.com -
I've been using "french" updated LVD 2002 for some time now. Works just fine. I'd recommend not to mess with official upgrade and do "french" update instead.
-
Nope.. havent gotten it working yet. =(
Ill attempt the french update using the hold eject button thing when I get home from work.
I forgot.. does this player have region settings? If so, will french update only play french DVDs? -
