I upgraded my lvd-2002 few weeks ago with transgear dvx-200 software version v0.T3.02g2a, They had on their website to kind of software v0.T3.02g2 and v0.T3.02g2a it depends wether yourr unit serial number starts with 10 or 21, mine starts with 21. I tried at first both versions (because i didn't understand japanese), g2 version gave me an error message "cannot update . current firmware is newer bla bla". But version g2a did not gave error message neither it updated, cd just spinned insuide the unit just like it was hard to read out from it. So i changed lines in flash.fuf file in version g2a in this way:
From this
=====================================
@Version V0.T3.02G2a
@Date 2004-02-07
@Player DVX-200
@Reset 0
@Settings 011
@VendorID 4
@Confirm 0
to this
=====================================
@Version V1.T3.02
@Date 2004-02-07
@Player LVD-2002
@Reset 0
@Settings 011
@VendorID 4
@Confirm 1
Then I burned it on cd, put into LVD and VOILA, it worked. I managed to update this firmware. My player thinks now that it is DVX-200 with
FW V.T3.02a. New fw works fine but , unit has now only english and japanese languages, and in subtitles instead of my native language letters there comes japanese hieroglyfes, so i would like to update LVD to this official fw. So far i have no success in it. LVD gaves me only this error message even if i use this *.tsp file. Can anybody figure out what is going on? Where is the place the unit checks it's fw version. Now it's clare that information it gets can be changed in two different ways. First writing special fw for it , like this g2a version, for second making separate file like this *.tsp is.
maybe somebody figures it out.

It seems that it's basically the very same T3.02 with the modified flash.fuf, which tricks the LVD-2002 into taking the upgrade. The firmware itself is exactly the same. But this method only requires one CDR.

Lucky777,
It's in your e-mail now. Peter says it worked to update his player when the newer TSP wouldn't. Apparently they changed the TSP file for some reason. Strangely, the older one wouldn't work for most people but the newer one would. There seems to be two totally different TSP files. The one I downloaded on 3/22 which was a ZIP file with a NRG image file of the TSP file, and the other (newer) version that LiteOn has on their site now, is a ZIP file with just the TSP only inside, it's not a NRG file and you just burn it directly on to a CD as a file.
So I guess everyone out there that can't update with the TSP that is currently on the LiteOn site should use this older version from 3/22. If anyone else needs it, let me know and I'll send it to you in an e-mail. Also, I've sent it to Peter and Lucky777 so they can forward it to you if I'm not at my computer.
This is all that's in the older version of the TSP:
LVD-2002 Test Procedure;
023b 0e00 0305 023b;
That's it. It's very different from the current version. I have no idea why this works for some players.
Thank God, at least it works. I was worried everyone out there that couldn't update would be out of luck, since the people at LiteOn are clueless about these things. Just one more reason to be angry at LieOn...Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
Just tried to upgrade my player with .nrg Roundabout sent me. Didn't work for me. Exactly the same result as with the newer .TSP file from liteon website. Need to try something else...

Successfully flashed to the V0.T3.02 using the "tsp" file fix:
Failed the first time using incorrect burn settings. The "tsp" file fix won't work if the disc is burned using "Mode 1."
Use the following settings when burning LVD2002.tsp to a CDR:
1. I used a CDR. I suppose a CDRW would work.
2. Use "Multi-Session"
3. Use Mode2/XA
4. Use "Track at Once"
5. Do not finalize
I then inserted the "tsp" disc. It reported "no files found" just as LiteOn instructions say. I then pressed "play." The disc auto-ejected, then auto-inserted. When the ISO disc menu re-appeared, I manually ejected the disc and turned off the player.
Then, I turned on the LVD-2002 and inserted the V0.T3.02 upgrade disc. Upgrade then accomplished successfully. The LED display indicated status as it read the disc, erased the ROM, flashed the ROM, then on-screen instructions directed me to turn off the player. I did so. The player then turned itself back on. It appears that the flash was accomplished successfully.
By the way, I always feel that when flashing any ROM, it is best to plug the device into a battery back-up device so that a momentary glitch in power will not cause a flash failure.
Just think, if the power drops out for even a second in time, the entire process is lost and the player may be rendered unusable.
If we think it's tough to get LiteON to anwer e-mail, just think how hard it would be to have the player exchanged over a bad flash!!
I'm happy to say that the update worked and that AT LAST, Lite On fixed the Divx 3.1 playback so ... NO MORE FREEZES!!!
Also, folder support!!! NICE! -
I followed the instructions which were posted by VideoJockey2002.
No problems at all updating.
Basically, you must burn the .tsp file as DATA to a cd.
You don't even have to use Nero to do this, ( I didn't).
Use your own favorite burning software if you like. Just make sure it is burning a data disc.
The .nrg file on the other hand must be burnt on a separate disc as an IMAGE file.
Follow VideoJockey2002's instructions on installing this firmware and you shouldn't have any probs.
I like the folder support the player now has.
The search function seems much quicker also. -
lucky777,
I assume that you have*unzipped* the tsp file before burning it as *data*?
Just a thought....

Lucky777,
Since the older TSP worked for Peter, I don't know why it isn't working for you. I assume you verified that the file is on the disc, and that it has the same information I posted above in it (open it with notepad to check it out). Actually I don't think burning it a certain way makes any difference, I used Nero but burned it as a CD-RW mode 1/ single session/ Disc-at-once/ finalize (basically opposite from what VideoJockey did) and it worked fine for me. So I don't think this is your problem. If you live in Southern Calif. I could help you directly, but elsewhere it's harder. So far everyone else has been able to update, so I am wondering if something could be wrong with your player. Not impossible. Also, I was wondering if you had tried other updates that failed, that somehow that had messed up the ROM in the unit, so that it doesn't recognize the TSP properly.
How many different tries did you make? Did you try the other FW (Japanese) that Poku was talking about? Are you using a CD-R or CD-RW? Recheck the file after burning it, to be sure it's correct. I guess if worse comes to worst, you could send the unit to LiteOn for repair/updating, but I'd call them first to make sure they will do it. They don't seem to have much on the ball, so I wouldn't be too confident about this. I'm trying to think of anything else you could try. Right at the moment I can't think of anything else to do.
Sorry to be redundant, but tell me again exactly what you did. When you get to the menu screen and it says "no files found!" and you press the play button at this point, what happens? Nothing at all? The disc isn't ejected like it should be? I would think there should be some error message like "no disc" if it doesn't recognize the disc at all. You're using new discs with no other files on them, right? (you probably are, but I'm just trying to think of anything at all). Have you tried just putting in the FW disc now, to see what happens, if anything? Maybe it somehow got the TSP in anyway. Do it one more time, and even though the tray isn't opening and closing like it should after the TSP, try it. Put it in, let it load, wait for "no files found!", press Play, wait a few seconds, eject it manually, remove disc, press Close, turn off power, turn on power, eject tray, insert FW disc, press close and see what happens. Do this with both TSP files, in case one might work and the other doesn't.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -

Quote from Roundabout:

This could very well be the reason for the failure to load the 320 update firmware.
Have you previously tried to flash the firmware ?
If so, and your current version is NOT 229, you will probably have to *rollback* to the 229 to enable the capability of upgrading to the 320 update.
This is a tricky operation. But if you are not currently running the 229 version of firmware on the machine, and are having problems *reflashing* the 229, I can tell you how to roll it back...
To reflash the 229 firmware:
Load the 229 disc in the drive.
Push 'stop' key and at same time unplug unit.
Replug the unit.
Press 'play' key.
Let the 229 firmware load.
Or if the above didn't work for you:
Disconnect power cable
Hold Eject button and reconnect power cable
Insert 2.29 Firmware CD
Disconnect power cable
Hold Stop button and reconnect power cable
Let firmware update process complete.
Now try and upgrade to 320, using VideoJockey2002's instructions.
(All at your own risk of course)

First of all I want to thank you all of you help. Even though player doesn't take the update it is very encouraging to have all the support here. Lets try to find out what's going on with the damn player or where I screwed up. I know how to burn CDs. I use Nero 6 with latest updates. For this update I tried CDRs and CDRWs. I burned .nrg Roundabout sent me as a Nero image. I can see LVD2002.TSP on resulting disk, it has just 2 lines of text described earlier in there. I burned data CDR and CDRW with new .TSP file from liteon following VideoJockey2002 directions. CD looks good on PC but player doesn't like it. I didn't flash player before with any other FW. It has original FW 2.29 from the factory. I've been using player for last few months without single problem. When I insert TSP disk it is recognized all the time as ISO disk. When player goes to the play menu, pressing play button on the front of the player doesnt cause any action from the player. Players display says ISO disk all the time. Looks like I need to prevent my player from going automatically to the blue play menu. I tried to change setup options but there is not much there. How can reset player to factory defaults? I'm a little hesitant to use French hacked FW but might end up doing so a little latter.

Maybe the method you described works on LVD-2001 but it doesnt work on LVD-2002. -
I updated my LVD2002 yesterday. I downloaded the tsp and the 3.02 firmware from liteonit.com. I copied the tsp on to a cdrw disc and then burned the nrg image to a 2nd cdrw disc. When I inserted the tsp disc, my 2002 stated iso loaded on the front panel display but the screen on my tv shows no files. When I pressed the play button, nothing happened, the player didn't eject. I just said f**k it, I ejected the tray and removed the disc and reloaded the tray manually and then turned off the player manually. I turned my player on and than inserted the firmware update disc and voila, it started to update my firmware. Maybe the lastest firmware patch from liteon doesn't need the tsp?

Hi there, Iīm having a rather silly problem with updating the firmware:
I downloaded the .tsp file and followed all the instructions that I found here, everything went as expected. Then I burned the firmware to the same CD-RW that I used for the .tsp, deleting the tsp.
I put the CD with the firmware in the tray and it says "No file found". Am I doing anything wrong perhaps?Darling, you ruined my life
So I hate you, and I always will...

The only thing we don't know is if the TSP actually did the trick without you knowing, or if, like you said, the FW doesn't need the TSP. As more people try this, maybe we can figure it out.
It's possible that there were slight differences in the original FW depending on serial numbers or FW original installation dates, which would cause different things to happen in different units - which could also explain why the FW was released without TSP at first, they may have had a unit in the factory that had a different FW installation date and it worked for them. They may not have tried it on more than one machine.
Mastropiero,
Did you make sure to use Nero to burn the NRG image after first unzipping the main package? If you look at the CD you made with windows explorer, what files do you see on the disc? You should have 4 folders (bin, dev, fonts, proc) as well as 9 files in the root folder. The disc should show a name of V0_T3_02 in explorer. If it doesn't, you may have burned the NRG file as a raw file instead of an image file. It won't work in that case.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
I did unzip the package, and what I got was the .nrg file and the release note.
I burned it into the CD then. Am I missing a step?Darling, you ruined my life

Mastropiero,
But did you burn it as an image file or as a raw file? As long as Nero is set up on your PC, it should automatically associate the .nrg file extension with Nero, so all you should have to do is double-click on the TSP file itself and Nero should open directly, ready to burn. Did you look at it in Windows Explorer to make sure the image was unpacked and burned properly? NRG is very similar to ISO format and it has to be burned with whatever program is associated (in this case, Nero) to work properly. Tell me what files you see on the disc after you burn it.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
After playing with 5 tsp disks I made, player still doesn't take new FW. Says something like "Current firmware is newer...." I clearly have problem with player taking TSP file. Looks like I'm lucky in a special way with this

Lucky777,
Running out of ideas here. Have you tried calling them? I know it's a long shot, knowing their record for bad tech support - but it's something you may have to do. Either that, or use the other FW (french) to update, then try to reflash to the official one...
They have 24/7 tech numbers toll-free, so you could call them right now. Here's the numbers, if you don't have them:
24 Hours Tech Support Hotline:
1-888-8LITEON (1888-854-8366)
or: 1-888-4LITEON (1888-454-8366)Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
Lucky, why don't you go ahead and download the french firmware suggested before? It is identical to original LiteOn's, and you don't have to use the TSP disk. If that method doesn't work for you, then you call the technical support.
-
I wanted to make official update to work but after much effort gave up and updated with french version as Goblin suggested. Main romfs.bin file on the "french" update CD is identical with the official LiteOn file. Main difference in the flash.fuf file
Compare: (<)E:\flash.fuf (579 bytes) - LiteOn File
with: (>)F:\flash.fuf (578 bytes) - French file

Also logo jpg is different. Besides that french version appear to be the same as LiteOn's. My player accepted update from french CD and seems to be OK. I don't understand why LiteOn created all this mess with TSP disk instead of fixing .nrg FW image itself. Looks like french hackers have better understanding of the subject then LiteOn's own engineers. -

Have you considered trying to flash the English FW now that the player has accepted the French one? It might work now. Maybe it cleared something in the memory to allow it to update now? But I also understand if you don't want to try, after all the aggravation thus far. But if you do decide to try it, let us know what the result is. Or even try the TSP file first, now.
Anyway, glad it works now, at least you do have the latest FW installed and running. I was underwhelmed at the difference in the player. The thing I needed most, VBR/mp3 Audio support, was not addressed at all, and never will be now, it seems. The player still won't play DivX files encoded with VBR audio below ~75Kb/s. I'll have to reencode a lot of files sometime later. Can't count on LieOn anymore.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
There is no "english" FW. FW from the french site is the same as official LiteOn's. Main romfs.bin file that contains actual FW is the same.

You mentioned that the french version logo .jpg was different, so I thought maybe you wanted to use the version from over here. But as long as everything else is the same and you don't care, then I'm glad you got it working.
Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
That french jpg is displayed only during FW flash. After the flash player gets updated to liteon 3.02.

Yeah its updating. i put LVD2002.TSP (the shorter one ) onto update cd. At first i burned update cd from original *.nrg file, i dont even remember if i finalized cd or not, second I added this LVD2002.TSP. Then i put it into LVD at first it gave me the same error message as always then it did this tray out/tray in and then it started the update procedure.
I'am very happy
BTW see what answered Liteon when i asked their help:

Dear Sir,
DVX-200 can't update with liteon's F/W .
You should get the F/W from Transgear not from Liteonit.

Subject: firmware update
Hello!
I have problems updating my LVD-2002 with latest software version 03.02.
I have tried both versions of LVD2002.TSP which you have on your
download site but still no luck. I put a data disc in with
LVD2002.TSP........ I have to mention that firmware that is inside my LVD now is V.T3.02.a made for Transgear DVX-200. I have updated it with this
because i already had gave up hope to get official subtitle and folder
support. ...... I would like to update to
official version because it has better multilingual support. Please
help me. Is there any lines in TSP file that should be changed or smth?
Is there possibility at all to get right fw on my unit again.
Best Regards
my name
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Was it really very hard to say that i should burn both files onto one cd? -
Roundabaout,
You were right, I was burning it as a raw file. Still, doing it right hasnīt led me to a happier end unfortunately. What happens now -there are all the files in the disc, btw - is that I load the CD, the player reads it, thereīs a flash-quick message saying "Music CD" while equally quick the timer makes a quick count from track 1 to 5 (Iīm talking less than a second) and then stops. Nothing happens after that. I tried switching it off with the CD in and on again, but still no result.
Any ideas?
edit: I tried it with the french FW as well, and I have the same result but for a thing: the track count goes ītil 6. It seems like the player recognizes a CD, does a check on it and then stops.Darling, you ruined my life
So I hate you, and I always will...

Sorry I got back to the forum too late. You were having troubles like I usually have. Things that work for others usually don't work for me.
Nevertheless, that which I would have asked was: Did you have the setup menu adjusted so that it would not automatically play ISO discs? Mine was set up like that.
But, I think you did try that.
Oh, well. Doesn't matter. You've used the alternative upgrade firmware so you reached the same end.
Who knows? Maybe with your firmware version you could roll back to previous versions if you wanted to do so?
--vj2k -
Did you try reloading the TSP one more time before you update the FW? Also, if you use a CD-RW, did you make sure to erase it before you put the files on it? I don't have a lot of ideas, because no one else has come up with an error like that one. Could be a media problem, try a different brand of CD to burn onto. If the disc wasn't finalized after burn, try finalizing it. The one I used, I finalized it and it worked, it was a CD-RW that I first burned the TSP to, loaded it, then erased the disc, burned the FW and loaded it.
After reloading the TSP, and after you eject the TSP disc, close the drawer and turn off power, then on again, eject to insert the FW disc.
Did you try both versions of the TSP? That also could have something to do with it. Which TSP are you using?Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny
